Update for AMD Freesync & Crossfire Support

I agree. I don't have time to argue with ignorance whether it is the "ostrich with the head in the sand syndrome" or lack of competence. Better to add them to the "flamboyant fanboy" ignore list.

I also suggest the ignore option. It makes AMD threads infinitely more readable when you remove the relentless trolling. If everyone did it, he'd just go away.
 
Well well..what a surprise. Yet another AMD thread gone in the shitter thanks to nvidia/intel-bots. But I should be thankful because I used to be a GPU agnostic but because of these "people" I won't give nvidia one more cent ever again :D
 
Nonsense, I've had a perfect experience with mine (pg278q). There's always people with issues and most of the time that's PEBKAC. Show me an official review where gsync didn't have sli support, not a bunch of useless links from end users.

Well, the first GSync monitor was the VG248QE, and the DIY GSync module was available as early as Jan 2014. Your PG278Q ROG Swift didn't come into existence until another 6 months later, by which time I'd expect all the bugs to have been ironed out already.

GSync didn't exactly play nice with SLI at launch. Saying it "worked just fine" or "was totally broken" are both inaccurate, since The Witcher 2 worked fine according to BlurBusters, but other games were borked. Yes again it's *just* a forum post, but none of the major review sites tested GSync with SLI, instead simply regurgitating nVidia's official statement about GSync being compatible with SLI.
 
SLI and G-Sync does work now, if you look at it strictly only these two functions. It's just that once you include other things, the combination also breaks DSR and MFAA, two of the biggest Maxwell features, kinda ironic since neither SLI nor G-Sync were Maxwell exclusive.
 
Well I got my XB270HU yesterday, and man have I never been so underwhelmed/disappointed.

The panel itself is fine, minus the uneven backlight which makes the bottom left corner look a hint darker than the rest of the screen. Main problem is GSync+SLI combo -- for all of GSync's hype and raving reviews about it being a "game changer", it felt like a total dud to me, at least with SLI in tow. Sure everything's peachy when FPS is above 50, but go below that, and your usual SLI jerkiness kicks in. GSync on vs off made little differenece (maybe it was a tad smoother? placebo effect most likely)

I will concede I don't have the largest game collection, and Google tells me how well GSync eliminates SLI (micro)stutter is game dependent. But apparently for single GPUs, it really does make sub-50 FPS gaming a lot more tolerable. Guess I have more testing to do this week.

But yeah, GSync and SLI might be compatible, but functionally I really can't say GSync is doing much to make the SLI experience better, at least with the games I have. All the more reason to never go with multi-GPU setups again.

Wow a display would have to be 4k with fresync and 32 inch for me to halfway even consider dropping 800 on a display again:D but i certainly agree fuck multi gpu setups no matter what brand

I only had time to test Far Cry 3/4/Blood Dragon Watch Dogs, The Crew, and Crysis 2/3 last night, but they all had varying degrees of jerkiness. I guess unsurprisingly the Ubisoft games had the most amount of stutter. Interestingly though aside from Watch Dogs, The Crew (a racing game) actually felt the least smooth when frames dropped into the mid-40s range.

Crysis 2/3 were much better than any of the Ubisoft games, but the transition from perfect fluidity to "not so smooth" could still be felt when the threshold FPS was crossed.

Just to balance what some may see as a lopsided rant, let me just say as long as I kept my FPS above 50, it was the smoothest, most fluid gaming experience I've ever had up to now. So yes, as long as you keep those frames coming, GSync is wonderful.

Thanks for replying. Some of those games I would blame the game (Far Cry, for example), but not Crysis, At least me personally. I consider Crysis games to be the better games.
 
Has there been any update here? More and more Freesync monitors are coming on the market and a lot of new AMD cards out there... I would have expected some action on this.

Just got my ASUS 1440p 144hz IPS w/ Freesync, but with my lone 290 I can't run demanding titles anywhere near the144 fps range.

After testing Freesync in BF4 it seems to be working well enough (Ultra with 2xMSAA getting 65-75 FPS, 4xMSAA was a good 20 frames less). However, I wouldn't mind hovering closer to the top tend (90hz/frames), while completely maxed out...which means my cheapest option is to snag another 290. Very interested in an update on how the crossfire integration is going.


Although, I'll probably end up doing my cheap upgrade regardless and just run this beautiful monitor at 144hz and hope I'm averaging 100+ frames :)

So is Crossfire with Freesync supported get? If not, any ETA?
 
it works on one of the guru3d moded drivers, so they are likely close...
