I have a system which is used as a DAW only (audio workstation)
currently it is a i7 875k with 4 GB running windows 7 32 bit (because some of my gear did not have 64 bit drivers)
now i am upgrading to a i7 2600k(happen to already have) with 16GB(2x8) win7x64 and a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO board. (all other parts the same)
The storage is like this:
boot drive and most used programs: SSD 120GB
working: sample and project data: 1TB WD black
windows swap and temp folders OCZ revodrive 50GB (cheap used one)
I want to use all the same drives, except a small SSD set up as an SRT cache on the mechanical working drive. this should work well, because on that machine, I load the same project every time i boot, until that project is finished.
2 questions:
1: does SRT work on non boot drives?
2: does the mechanical drive get formatted? or can it use the existing data.
It is backed up, but it would take some time to load that all back(over network), which i would like to avoid. normally i would just buy a new drive and use that, and copy in the machine, but have you seen the prices lately
