Well, I purchased a mobo from a member at anandtech. When I turn on the computer, it would shut off every min and a red flashing light on the mobo would turn on and beep. It wont stop beeping till I unplug the power and if I plug it back on, the computer will turn back on automatically.

Note: I just got this mobo and I still have my old windows on the hard drive, I can boot up but it will pop up a message and it says something "unstable.. 20 errors" and it shuts itself off after that.

Thank you

First it helps if we know what mobo you've got.
Look up that error in the manual, if no manual then go to the mobo makers home site and download it.

Could be........
1:- CPU overheating.
2:- Bad voltages.
3:- Mobo shorting on case.
4:- Other error.

Strip it down to min spec.
No drives, extra card, etc, etc.
Are you stable just in the bios screen or does it still shut down ?

Luck......... :D

The mobo is FIC KT-748 Socket A Motherboard

1. I don't think my CPU is over heating because it's at 37C
2. I am using an Antec 3700AMB and I have tried out my sister's Lanboy
3. Mobo shorting on case.????? I think I know what it means but could you please explain it to me to make sure? Thank you
4. ????

No, it's not stable in the Bios setting area, basically, it's not stable anywhere.

Thank you for your replied.

First boot should be on a piece of cardboard (or something equally nonconductive, but when you're building a system cardboard is usually abundant) outside of the case, with only one stick of memory in, the video card, and the "system" hard drive. After you get it to work there, then you stick it in the case and install the rest of the memory & other devices.

Try running Memtest...since you said it can make it into Windows but crashes immediately, my first suspects would be either memory issues or incorrect BIOS settings (maybe it's over-overclocked, especially as it's secondhand...use the reset jumpers if you haven't yet).

Oh, I forgot to mentioned that I have cleared out the Bios Setting twice. I have also tried a different memory but same thing occurs.

Did you try it outside the case yet?

Did you follow the stickied procedure for changing motherboards without needing to reinstall Windows?

I couldn't find that stickied that you are talking about. Could you please tell me in what forum and the name of the thread? Thanks a million

If your not stable in the bios area then its probably a hardware problem not software as only minimal software is running.

Rebuild it out of its case with minimum specs.
No drives, Just mobo, psu, one stick of memory, vidio card, cpu & hs, thats it.
If its still unstable out of case then its one its probably one of these five items which is bad.
Mobo:- Check for damage, bulging caps, etc.
Psu:- Check that its putting out the right volts, swop for another if possible.
Memory:- Swop for another stick, try another slot.
Vid:- Try another card, If you have a pci one then all the better.
Cpu:- Reseat heatsink. Underclock as much as possible.

Luck........... :D
