Unstable RAM

Hey guys,

I have recently built a new rig with the following specs:
Asus P8Z68V-Pro
i5 2500k with Hyper 212 evo
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4) RAM DDR3 rated at 1600Mhz @ 1.5v (9-9-9-24)

I have successfully reached 4.5Ghz @ 1.3V and can run Prime95 small fft & large fft without any issues, but it fails rapidly (rounding error) when doing a blend test. From what I read here, this is due to the RAM being unstable. What I don't understand is that my RAM should be stable since it's running at clock speeds and timings, am I missing something here?

I am currently trying to raise the ram voltage to see if I can attain stability (currently trying 1.55V).

You definitely don't want to bump the voltage on the RAM.

Try running the blend test with one DIMM at a time and see if you've possible got a bad stick.
 
Shouldn't having RAM voltages under 1.65v be totally safe?

Page 80 - Table 7-6. Processor System Agent I/O Buffer Supply DC Voltage and Current Specifications

VDDQ - Processor I/O supply voltage for DDR3

Minimum: 1.425 V
Typical: 1.5 V
Maximum: 1.575 V

The integrated memory controller on SB chips doesn't like anything higher than 1.575v

edit: I have isolated the problem to a single stick of RAM. When both were in, the blend test would fail rather quickly (< 1 minute) on some cores. When only the faulty stick was in the computer, the test would fail instantly on all cores. I am running the test right now on the other stick without any failure so far.

Great to hear, sorry that one of your DIMMs is defective.

Also, try populating different DIMM slots on the motherboard to completely determine if the stick is indeed bad.
