I've got a 1700 JUIHB that I've been running at 200 x 11 for a while on an A7N8X deluxe (rev2) w 2x 512 Corsair XMS PC3200LL modules. I decided to test it with prime 95 and it failed after an hour and 4 minutes.
The voltages is at 1.65 in the bios, temps are 111 F CPU and 89 F for system.
Since it is unstable I should do something about it, obviously, but when I reset the multiplier to 10.5 (which worked back when it was running with a 166 MHz FSB) it will not boot. It won't even post and I have to reset the FSB jumper. It will post at 8.5 and lower, and 11.5 as well (I haven't tried any higher)
What do you folks recommend that I do? up the Vcore? The processor is only being cooled by an Alpha PAL 8045, so I'd like to know what a "safe" maximum vcore is for these Tbreds. Also, if you have an idea why my system won't post with a multiplier in the 9-10.5 range, I'd love to hear that.

I like to thing that a 10% boost in voltage doesn't hurt and won't wear at the silicon too much overtime. It's those that funnel 2.0 volts to they're CPU that will end up with a dead chip in a year...

I'd say try to lower the clock speed a little somehow, test the stability, and if it's not stable add a little voltage. And when I mean a litte, I mean 0.025v. Babysteps :p . I don't see loosening timings would improve the stability of your CPU overclock. Since you didn't OC your RAM, I very much doubt that's the issue. That's a pretty pump in clockspeed. I'd think 1.750 volts might do it, but I'm not sure.

About the mutlipliers and whatnot, try flashing the BIOS to the newest available version. If you already have the newest version, then I don't know... Submit it to ASUS and they might be able to help you out.

I have the ram at 2.7 volts as of now.

I'll try lowering the FSB a bit and see how that pans out. Thanks for the advice
 
as an update, I tried it at 190 FSB and that seemed more stable, so I upped the voltage to 1.70 (asus utility shows 1.744 to 1.76 alternating?) and tried at 200 FSB. that failed prime95 after about an hour and 20 minutes. Dropping down to 195 seems to lead to a more stable system, as it ran a little over 7 hours before I shut it down.

The thing is, now the temps are a little high, I was seeing 50 C (122F) on the processor at full load and only 28C for the motherboard. The cpu temp was the same whether the thermaltake smart fan II was running at 5000 rpm or 3000rpm.
Are these temps something to worry about for an athlon XP?
