Well make a long story short. I got alot of cdrs with stuff on them. I go to let it run the installer and it gives me a file error. Such as last nite. It wouldn't work and theres no obvious scratches or anything. I thought maybe its my new winxp install (went from 2k) so i went to 2k quick and same prob. Went to my dads box today and it started up. Ok. Went back to my box and poof there it goes too! WTF?! I had something similar happen at my friends house when installing off of my cdrs too. Is it me or r these fuji cdrs unstable and tempermental? They do have a funny "burnt" smell to them but then again so do most cdrs lately dunno why. Anybody know what is going on?

not all media is created equal, nor do all optical drives play well with others, in addition its best to treat discs like vampires
they really dont like sunlight or heat

I know about the media rules and what not but the thing is in even ONE (out of 3 complete different ones (liteon, pioneer, nec) ) reader it might work one minute and not another when i have to reuse that cd as was the case at my friends house. But as far as environment goes they are on the ground now in one of those big cases in my room. No sun, etc. hitting them but they are COLD most of the time which i assume should be fine.

Crappy media for sure. It's flaking out, your best bet is to use some TY or Mitsubishi discs.Long lasting, they are :p

Well the kicker is that its fuji media! =/ Its about 6-10 months old i think so i dunno. Either way yeah i think it is bad media too. Thanks.

best way to avoid this is buy good media .. don't buy cheap crap ..try for Yamaha ..Maxell ...TDK ... Memorx ....ya i know it costs more but my data means alot more to me so maybe if you don't give a rats ass you should stick with the cheap stuff :)

not only good media, but good media tested on your particular burner, like the first 2 links above (DVD|CDR)

Rat's ass? Fuji used to be Taiyo Yuden man, the best of the best! Now they are turning to Prodisc, only the Fuji made in Japan is TY.
