Unresponsive DVD drive

I bought a second hand dual layer DVD RW so that I could install Crysis (my old DVD drive didn't support dual layer). I plugged it in, let windows install a drive and it comes up under device manager as 'DVDRW SATA 20X20X12X ATA Device'. When I insert a disc however, it just spins and doesn't read it. Win7 asks me to insert a disc if I try and browse it's contents.

Does anyone know what could be wrong?
