I have just setup an UnRaid server using an older system that has an Asus P5Q premium motherboard, a Core 2 Duo CPU, 8GB of RAM, an Areca raid controller (configured for JBOD) and some other drives. I am using the onboard SATA ports and for some reason a drive connected to port 7 or 8 is not showing up in UnRaid, I see it during POST, but its displayed on its own for some reason, not sure why, wondering if anyone can shed some light.

What about ports 9 and 10?

It looks like for that board the first 6 ports are Intel and the last 4 are Silicon Image Sil5723. Could be a complication with Unraid not having support for the controller.

Different boards but the same controller. Apparently, they get it working but only if they use the Sil5723's RAID feature where two drives in two ports 7/8? show up as a drive depending on how you setup "Drive Expert"
