STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

i am doing a new install of xp pro, during the installation i get this stop screen.

i googled 0x000000ED and came up with http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/q297/1/85.asp&NoWebContent=1

after reading the above link, i put a 80 pin ide on the hd. still gets same error. i ran maxblast 3 and set up 3 partitions and treid again, still no luck.

the sys specs are:
amd 2500 barton
a7n8x
asus 9800xt
maxtor 80gb 7200rpm 8mb (primary master, jumper set to cable select)
lite on dvd-rw (secondary master, jumper set to cable select)

any help would be greatly appriciated(sp)

edit : just wanted to add the second parameter (0xbbbbbbbb) of the Stop error is not 0xC0000032.

edit: this issue was resolved by removing the dvd-rw and replacing it with a normal cd-rom.

i downloaded powermax but dont have any floppy's lying aorund soi need to get some.

and to add some more info, the hard drive shows up in the bios and when i ran the max blast utility it went without any issues.

thanks for your thoughts thus far.

When I worked at HP this was a common issue. It seems that non-SP1 XP boxes with "write caching" enabled on teh hard drive could run into problems if not shutdown properly or unexpectedly lost power. We had to boot the machines off of the XP disc go the recovery console, and IIRC the command was "chkdsk /r", and this would fix the problem.

I have not seen this on a clean install, but I wonder if the installed shutdown or restart unexpectedly in the install process?

no there has never been a power loss during the installation.
i ran the power max program version 4.09, and it came back with no errors. i ran every test they have on there... basic scan, full scan, etc. it also had a full format so i did that as well but nothing will install. so far ive tried to install windows xp pro and windows 2k and mandrake 8.2. mandrake wont even load properly. windows 2000 pro gives stop error 0x0000007B info . and windows xp pro still gives the same stop error.

after running the powermax im starting to think maybe its a motherboard or bios issue? im using the a7n8x retail, version 2.0 revision 1007.

any ideas?

edit: just wanted to add im using kingston hyperx 2x512 in dual channel mode, incase that makes a difference.
