i need help, when i boot my laptop up, it gets to the windows(xp) splash screen and i always get this BSOD error. not sure what to do.

After doing research i have tried booting off the windows cd to try and format from there, i get a message saying "it cannot be formatted". i tried doing a new installation, i get the same error.

other information i found on the web was this:

Easy to fix thois, if you're lucky. What you need to do is boot from the windoze CD, and go to the recovery console. Then once you've got a prompt, typethese commands in this order:-

chkdsk c: /r
fixboot
fixmbr

Don't worry if the chkdsk command takes a long time. It could take a few hours if your drive is screwed badly. Normally though, it will be pretty quick and take less than 10 minutes. If after doing this your PC is still unbootable, it's reformat time.

so i tried what this person has suggesterd:

1. chkdsk --> it gets to 39% and then i get the error "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems"

2. fixboot --> it says "fixboot is writting a new boot sector" then "the boot sector cannot be fixed"

3. fixmbr --> it says this computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master boot record. it asks if i am sure i want to continue and i say yes. it then says the new master boot record could not be written, the disk may be damaged.

im not sure what else to do, i have a version of knoppix, maybe i can format from in that but im not sure how.

any help appreciated

Ivan.
