unlocking pipes on 6800gs

nevermind. i got it!!! IT IS AMAZING. I GET 65 FPS NOW IN CS:S!!!!!!!!! 1280x1024 everything high hdr aax4 asx16!!!!!
 
lol update: when i unlock pipes pink dots appear on white screens. put em back and its fine. it was good while it lasted
 
It depends on the card. some can unlock to 16 pipes just fine some cannot.

Can you at least unlock the vertex shader then? Or, if you had both unlocked, and got the pink dots, try locking away one, and then the other. You still might be able to keep either the pipes or the vertex shader unlocked, for a performance boost!

*gets all nostalgic* I 'member my 6800gs agp...unlocked...aftermarket cooler....Ultra speeds....*sigh*

Same. Don't know why I got rid of mine. The $180 on ebay I got for it in May included one of those expensive ($30) GPU coolers. Oh yeah, I remember. It was running close to 80 degrees Celsius on load and scaring me.

I got lucky, and picked up an accelero x1 cooler for 18 dollars in a wicked ncix.com sale, and it did a great job of keeping load temps (overclocked) to around 65c! still running strong now with its new owner, overclocked for about a year now!
 
mine is about 87 idle lol. i dont care it been going like this for a while now ( about 2 years) and it hasnt exploded yet so im happy. what do you mean unlocking one. regulary it says 12 and 5. i unlocked it to 16 and 6. is there another thing i can unlock?

i guess i can live with the pink dots is it gives me a boost of 20fps in cs:s. will it be bad for my card?
 
Normally, it's 12/5. A GT or Ultra is 16/6. See if you can find some middle ground: 12/6 or 16/5. That's what he meant.

I would guess that 12/6 will work, without the pink dots (called artifacts).
 
artifacts, yeah i was looking for the word. ok i tried 16 5 and rebooted, still dots. but 70 fps on the cs stress test!!!!! ill try 12 6 and report back with results and stress test fps lol
 
12 6 still artifacts. damn. so i figured if 16 5 has artifacts and 12 6 has artifacts then ill put it at 16 6 for best preformance lol. i really dont care about artifacts. they are not in games only like on google when i type something in then scroll down they are there but then i minimize it and bring it back up and poof they vanish lol.
 


thats what it looks like after scrolling up and down a few hundred times. on the top and bottom is what it looks like regularly.
