I am looking to get a phone but I have no clue how to unlock a phone lol. Is there any one here that unlocks phones?? I would be fine sending the phone to you as long as you have excellent heat,. I can get a phone cheaper on craigslist then I can get it new so I want to go that route.
I don't have a specific phone picked out yet but it's gotta run on tmobile network.
Leaning toward a htc phone if that helps I just don't know what I want to get..

Also what is the frequency that tmo runs on.. I forgot and I see alot of different info on google

T-mobile uses GSM network. Why go through all the trouble of buying locked phones? Some phones cannot be unlocked. I would recommend you buy an unlocked phone for the ease of mind.

What frequency does tmo use. I need some sites to browse for good priced unlocked phones. I will buy unlocked if the price is right.

I wanted to use a iPhone but I don't want to be stuck on edge since it's so slow..

just go to xda forums use custom rom and never heard of a HTC not unlocking or having a cool unlocked rom. who buys new unlocked phones those cost to much, i have a spare iphone i was planing on using for tmobile forgot about it until you mentioned it. just a 4gb first gen version tho

I hear That edge is too damn slow from what I hear, Id love to use a 3g iPhone on tmi but all I hear is how slow it is. I really want the phone to text more then anything and I have texting on the iPhone down packed. Plus I like the web browser alot.

I like being able to jailbreak the iPhone and have all those games and apps to use. I am having a hard time tho finding out how fast edge is in my area. I might check facebook during the day or maybe do YouTube every so often. I have wifi at home and I am at home more then anything tho. I think using a iPhone on tmobile will work fine for me considering I'm home more then not and I can't really use the phone at work anyways.

What do you think?? Should I just roll with the iPhone on tmobile? I am very comfortable with the browser and I really like the texting on it. I am more familiar with the iPhone then any other phone and I don't know if I will like using a different browser or not.

I don't care about flash at all. The iPhone sounds like a good idea I just need dome input from you guys to help make my decision lol...

From what i've been reading edge is 100-200kbps I get 1600kbps avg on my wifi at home. That's 8-12 times faster then edge roughly. This is making me want to look for a actual tmobile phone lol. Speeds like this will be rather slow to say the least.

I wanted the iPhone because I'm use to it and I can get one for $200-$250 off craigslist easy. Are there any phones that are in that same price range used that I can use 3g with tmo?
My main thing is the browser. I love the safari browser and I don't want to get something with a crap browser on it.

Is there anything compareable to the iPhone browser and size wise? I dint need nor want a physical keyboard as it will just make for a big phone. The hd2 and nexus 1 are out if my price range. Any help would be appreciated guys..

Well after further reading on the tmo forum I got this
avg for 3g 500-1,000kbps
avg for edge 100-250
the 1000k and 250 are the max avg I found from numerous users. Some people were reporting edge as low as 46kbps and some 3g as low as 100kbps.

It shows on the tmo map great coverage in my area. I guess I can always get the cheapest iPhone I can find off craigslist, unlock with your help lol and try it out. If it seems to slow then I can get a tmi phone that will let me get 3g. The worst that can happen is I sell the iPhone for what I paid for it..

I would recommend something like an HTC MyTouch 3G or the HTC G1. Both are native Tmobile phones and support 3g. I own both and love them! The touchscreen is just as responsive and accurate as my old Iphone, and the Android OS runs just as well. Plus I can mod the hell out of android without fear of the Google police banning my phone or something.
Also, don't get an AT&T phone unlocked and expect to use T-Mobile's 3G, they are different frequencies and the 2 are not compatible.

I think the g1 and mytouch are Not my cup of tea. I don't like them much at all. I know bout a iPhone on tmobile only using edge, that's why I'm debating getting a hd2 or the iPhone. I think that edge will be fine for me for the most part as 90% of the time I am at home and can just my wifi for Internet.

I am more concerned with having the phone to make calls and text. If anything I may use facebook or check my email and that isn't really a big deal as I will be at work and only do that at lunch when I have plenty of time to spare.

Another thing is the games and apps I can get on the iPhone from jailbreaking it and I am very use to the iPhone. I use my girls iPhone to post here so I use a iPhone everyday for Internet thru wifi.
I more or less need it to get I'd of my home phone and to text and tmobile is cheap for unlimited everything for 2 lines.

It's gonna be at least a month before I get my new phone anyways. I have been seeing so many iPhones on my local craigslist for cheap so that is gonna be my best bet. 3g are $150-200 and 3gs are $200-$300 on there. If I can get a hd2 off c-list for $300 I will buy that. There really aren't too many tmobile phones that I like other then the hd2.

The touch pro 2 is a bit big for my liking and I don't need a physical keyboard. I really like the simplicity of the iPhone and I have been using one for about a month for my Internet thru wifi so I am kinda hooked on the iPhone lol. I know alot of people say the iPhone is hype and overrated but it is so easy to use and the virtual keyboard is very easy for me to use and the browser is the best I've used.

I haven't tried out a windows mobile browser as I don't k ow anyone with a winmo phone to use. The hd2 is sweet but I think that it may be a bit big for my liking aswell due to the screen being so big. Plus if I manage to breakthe screen I'm sure it's expensive and if I break the phone a replacent is gonna be $449 if I can't find a cheap used one compared to the iPhone which I can get all day long off crais list for $200 or less.

Just be weary unlocking a phone. I just got a T-Moblie phone unlocked using it on ATT for my daughter and she can't do anything that deals with the internet, no MMS TXT messages and no internet.

Why because it's not setup to join ATT's wireless network. The phone calls work and the normal txt work but, I now have to find a normal ATT phone.

No, you need to program it to work on AT&T's network. Just because it's unlocked doesn't mean it'll work automatically.

Search AT&T APN settings and how to change them in the phone you bought. You should be able to get everything working but high speed data.

Unlocking phones is very straightforward. You pay for a code based on the phones IMEI number and the phone prompts you to enter it. Pow, unlocked. This varies based on the particular phone.

On T-Mobile I would recommend the MyTouch 3g, especially the new version with more RAM and a dedicated 3.5mm audio jack. That or the Nexus One which can be had for very cheap if you sign a new contract with T-Mo.

since we're on the topic of unlocking phone. Let's say i got a android based phone, unlocked, but does not sign up for service with the providers. Would it be possible to tether to my own wifi at my house and use my wifi to make VoIP calls? Just wonder if this is possible and if it's possible are people doing this to replace their landline without having to buy into a monthly plan like MagicJack, Vonage and such.

Do you by chance have any resource, links on doing this? I'm seriously considering this but haven't done so because I don't want to pay a few hundred bucks for a phone (w/ out contract) not knowing if this will be possible or not. Thanks.

This is possible and people do it all the time.

Poop, you're going to need a SIP or skype based program for it, you won't be able to do it with just an unlocked phone.
