unlocked phone?

I have a 4 or 5 year old razr and i was surfing newegg and i saw a section with unlocked phones. my question is, i have att as my provider and i was wondering if i could just buy an unlocked phone, put my sim card in it and use the unlocked phone?

Yes, so long as it is a GSM phone with the US bands on it... which pretty much all phones on Newegg are.
