I'm not much into overclocking, and with a chip like this I'm sure the standard 3.4ghz speed would be great.

How fast would one expect a chip like this to run with water cooling and a lowered multiplier and juiced FSB? I have the water cooling setup now more for the lack of fan noise than it's OC potential - but if I had a multiplier unlocked part it would be so easy to play around.

I know a guy that is selling one and I'm wondering if it's worth the cash or if it might not be better to pick up an A64 FX53 chip.

Any comments are appreciated.

Are you buying this chip from a reviewer, or someone that works at a hardware benchmarking site? The only place I've heard of an unlocked intel was in a guru3d.com article reciewing the P4 3.0c.

And yes, I would go for the unlocked intel. At the very least, it will be as fast as the FX53 and a novalty. At the very most you'll get it to hit 4GHz or above, and get some bragging rights as you're probably the only one on these forums with an unlocked intel.

Quite a few guys around here have unlocked Intel chips ;)

Yes, many have unlocked Intel chips...but I dunno of any who have an unlocked 3.4EE.

There is a guy over at xtremesystems.org that has an unlocked 3.4 ee, actually i think there are 2 and both are running over 4ghz, under phase change of course. word on the forums is that these things like cold temps ad don't mind voltage as much as the regular NW chips.

BTW good luck

Around here? meaning the [H] forum or Bombay, India?!

I wouldnt mind a nice unlocked EE. Think intel is going to unlock all the chips as an added benefit to Hardcore gamers. (overclockers) Like the FX is unlocked?

That would be 3 times Intel is following in AMD's footsteps.

1 - add 64 bit (x86-64)
2 - adding an integrated memory controller on chip (future Intel chip)
3 - unlocking the highend gamer's chip (cool possibility - probaby not though)

I would take the FX 53 and see how far I can push it. Pound for pound round for round...i'd say the FX would win hands down in gaming and most apps with some better cooling.

Imagine that thing at 2.8-3.0ghz!

eh, amd has gotten so much from intel, I think it is time that things started flowing the other way.

I guess one of the biggest things that's holding me back is the $1050 price tag I'm looking at for the EE. For that I could get a sweet board and the AMD...

I know... tough decision....

I'll report back and let you know what transpires - if I go with the AMD maybe I can pass along the deal on the EE.

Thanks for your posts & input. Much appreciated.
