Unknow Device in USB

My USB devices have quit working. Device manager shows 2 unknown devices under USB controllers. All attempts to delete these devices fail as have all attempts to update the drivers. After deleting them, they pop up again when booting. There are no devices plugged into the USB ports and when a device is plugged in, it is not recognized. This is a new motherboard that worked fine until 6 days ago.
 
Your not really giving us any kind of system info, but I would reload the chipset drivers for your motherboard. Also, check the website for your board if there are specific USB drivers.
 
The motherboard is a MSI KT4V with an Athlon 2.8ghz processor. Using 512 mb of Crucial DDR RAM. When the motherboard was replaced, the harddrive was not reformatted. I've reinstalled new motherboard drivers. The mystery is it worked for a while. I have a theory that the motherboard may be trying to use the drivers from the old motherboard.
 
I don't think AMD makes a 2.8 Ghz processor, so I'm assuming you mean the 2800+. Second, please tell me that you re-installed the OS when you put in a new mobo? If they had different chipsets, then your running into a driver conflict, which is exactly why people always reformat and re-install when upgrading the motherboard.
 
another possibilty is that the usb on the mobo is set in the wrong mode in the bios.. make sure its set to enable usb 2.0 mode..otherwise it may be the problem.

you should have been ok if you only replaced a msi kt4 with a msi kt4 but if you went from something else to the kt4. I'd say its 100% time for a reload

To my knowledge, the OS was not reinstalled when MB was replaced. Although it worked fine for a while, I'm beginning to think that is the solution I need. The only other possibility I can think of is a bad MB.

The processor is an AMD 2400+.

Out of curiosity, is this 2400+ running at 2800+ speeds or what?
 
A clean OS install is a must when you replace major hardware like a motherboard, go for it :D
