Universal Retention Bracket

I want to switch over from a Scythe Ninja Mini to an HSF with more clearance, like the Xigmatek HDT-S1283. I'm also fed up with push pins and want switch over to a retention bracket. I know Xigmatek sells a retention bracket, the Crossbow ACK-I7751, but its proprietary and a permanent install. I don't mind the permanent install, but I do mind being stuck to Xigmatek only.

Does a universal bracket that can fit any LGA775 HSF exist? Or do you have to get a proprietary bracket for any HSF you decide to use?

I've been told that this one: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/lgbowiscsp.html works fine with the Xig.

For the record, I'm not sure where people get this "permanent install" stuff from? It just has double-sided tape, the same as the Zalman retention bracket that came with my old HS/F (9700nt).

Different heatsinks from different manufacturers use different mounting methods. A universal mounting kit like you're looking for simply does not and can not exist. The only standardised method for mounting heatsinks on LGA775 sockets is the push-pin mechanism, but aside from that each manufacturer uses their own method.

Also, the Xigmatek backplate is hardly permanent. It can be removed fairly easily if you heat it up a little bit(just run your PC with some load to heat up the CPU for a few minutes, then turn it off and the backplate should come off easy).

Okay. Well if the Crossbow can be removed without too much trouble I'll just get that with the S1283.

The OCZ Vendeta and Vendetta2 both work with the Xigmatek Retention Bracket.
