Almost every day, a Linksys WRT54G router connected to Verizon DSL resets itself from the PPPOE setting to DHCP, thus disconnecting the internet.

1. This happened with a previous Linksys WRT54G router. (the current one is new)
2. This happened with a previous DSL modem (current one is newest model).

Any ideas?

steady power source?
underpants gnomes?
what if the router isn't there? does just the modem work?

hmmm yeah, steady power, I guess I could try a battery backup. just seems strange that the wan option is reset. because if you turn off a router it doesn't reset that option.

thats true, have you checked the firmware and seen if there been an update on the linksys website? maybe faulty firmware?

Have you bridged your DSL modem...which is most likely a combo modem/router...doing the PPPoE and NAT already.

im pretty sure i updated the firmware to newest. but ill check it out again/reset to defaults.

i've never had to fuss with a dsl modem before to get it to work with a router, but I'll look into the config page in the modem and see if theres anything I can try differently. thanks for the replies.

also, is it a modem from your high speed provider or your own personal, becuase alot of providers lock thier config pages.
