Surprised the stupid AS isn't sending you to a different classic server, there are a bunch of them. I've been getting work fine.

Edit: CPU load is a little high which is likely the cause of the 503's, server is up just slow to respond.

how typical is this.....

"Hey everybody, Please run the uniprocessor client as much as possible! (but don't be upset if you can't get any work because our infrastructure can't handle increased load)"

It's actually very rare that one can't get uniprocessor work. The servers are much more plentiful and generally more available than the SMP servers. However, I guess people just need something to whine about when PG is concerned.
 
Is there a way to force being assigned to a new work server?

Unfortunately no. However, you might try playing with the WU size in the config. Sometimes that will assign you to a different server.

I did that, but since I have something in my queue, I got a WU not recognized by server when I tried to upload. Oh well, I guess the deadline's long enough that the servers should be back up before it expires.
 
The server is down for me too, I guess I'll switch to my linux box to do any work until it's up.
