Uninstalling Old Driver

My GTX 275 arrived this morning.

It's replacing a 9800gt.

My question is this: I'm using Driver Sweeper, and I've just cleaned out the Driver settings.

I see that there's another box with the option to clean out the Nvidia Chipset - should I clean the chipset as well? What is this anyhow? Am I supposed to uninstall that also?

That is probably the chipset for the mobo (I assume you have an nVidia mobo?), you should leave them, they are important ....could you tell me exactly how long the card is, I am about to order the same one but I'm not sure if it will fit in my case...thanks!

Leave the chipset drivers in place. DO NOT UNINSTALL THEM! Your board will stop working as well. (i.e. not being able to get no the net)
I use Driver Cleaner and guru3d.com has a nice list of utilities that you could use as well. Good luck installing your new card!

A lot of these driver packages come with un-install routines. Are they still leaving orphan files with the driver updates? I generally don't go back and manually delete any driver dll's from the older Nvidia drivers. Maybe Driver sweeper could help but is it really necessary?

Yeah, I thought that the chipset thing was something that I should just leave alone. I was heading out the door to work anyhow. The card sits waiting on my kitchen table. I can't wait to get home and install that baby.

Hello Stalker Clear Sky!

Hello Stalker Clear Sky!

Don't mean to hassle you, but please measure the length of the card for me before you install it, I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks!

No, that's for the motherboard, not the video card. You really don't even have to uninstall the drivers, it uses the same drivers for both cards. Just going to device manager, right click the 9800GT uninstall, then shut down the PC, put in the new card and boot it up will be sufficient.

No it's not, they usually find stuff but only because it's stuff that is waiting to be deleted on reboot. I wouldn't use one unless I had some type of driver problems/blue screen or I were switching from Green to Red or vice versa. In this guys case he doesn't even have to change the drivers as long as he has newer ones that support the 260.

Are you talking about me?

I would agree with you that it's probably not necessary to run driver sweeper - but it can't hurt. Also, it's not a 260. It's a GTX 275 - which person are you posting about?
