I built a new PC with Vista a couple of weeks ago and my new Samsung DVD burner came with an OEM copy of Nero. I had never used the program before, so I installed it and thought I would try it. I didn't really care for it, so I uninstalled it 2 days later.
My old PC used to be a Media Center PC and everyone in the family uses the built in media center to stream TV shows, pictures, and music to our home theater room (xbox 360 extender). We use Media Center every day for something. All of sudden, our pictures all disappeared when using Media Center. I thought maybe it was a bug in the new Vista OS we were using. Vista Media Center would show our folders, but would show them as empty both at our main PC and through the Xbox 360 extender. The pictures were physically in the folders and they would open with any photo program.. just not through Media Center.
After searching for a week for a solution, I guess I got lucky and hit the right keywords in a Google search and it turns out that uninstalling Nero wipes out registry entries that Media Center needs to recognize certain file types. I had to go back in and edit the registry to fix the problem.

I'm sure this is an uncommon problem, but I wanted to post it anyway just in case it ever happens to anybody else and there will be a reference for it if they ever do a search.
