I just saw a news item on engadget about Uni-Pixel and their TMOS display technology. A few minutes of searching turned up this youtube video, which describes the TMOS technology in some detail. The company claims that, compared to LCD panels, TMOS-based displays are cheaper to build (same process technology as LCDs but with fewer layers), have better contrast (brighter whites & darker blacks), faster response time (measured in microseconds), and pretty good viewing angles.

Their technology sounds reasonable enough (to a layman like me); controlling light emission by connecting a wave-guide with micro-lenses seems to be a brilliant idea. I cannot find any demos online, but EETimes reports that Uni-Pixel has already started volume shipment of the active films used in TMOS displays. Does anyone know more about this than I do?
