First post on hardforum... I registered here because it seems like a good place to complain about monitor problems =)

I've had a Dell 2407wfp for about 2 years now, and absolutely think its a great monitor. Lately Ive been trying to increase the size of my desktop real estate. My first investment was a Dell 3007wfp and I truly thought it looked like junk compared to the 2407wfp (I'm not a gamer so the ghosting of the 2407wfp doesn't bother me one bit). To top it off, the 3007wfp was incredibly noisy and buzzed at me all night long in my otherwise dead quiet studio room. I'm pretty hardcore about having a silent room to work in, so the 3007wfp could never find a place in my studio. Plus, the 3007wfp had weird ununiform blotches on it. The viewing angle didn't affect these, there were just areas on the monitor that looked funny to me, like very faint stains.

Forget it, back to the 2407wfp.

Well, I thought first I'd add two 2007fps to the sides of the 2407wfp. Then, because of a good deal, i decided to just go for three 2007fps and sell the 2407wfp on ebay if the whole thing worked out. Well, the 2007fp and the 2407fp, albeit they have the same vertical resolution, the panels themselves don't line up. The 2407wfp is about an inch taller.

Anyways, to cut this short I really don't like the 2007fp. I mean, it's just the 2407wfp has spoiled me. I find the purple-ishness of the 2007fp annoying. I wound up with 3 S-IPS panels, all A05, manufacture dates June, July, and July 2008, respectively. So they're all relatively new off the assembly line and what not and probably the best these panels are gonna be. I know they're SIPS because of the purple-ness when viewing things at a side, a trait I find incredibly annoying. The 2407wfp doesn't do this at all, its like the most uniform, perfect monitor I could possibly own and the 2007fp feels cheap in comparison, even though the text on them is actually a little bit more sharp than on the 2407wfp.

Well, I want to sell these now. Drat. I hate that I am so picky. The 2407wfp is the best panel I know of and it was silly of me to think the 2007fp would be of equal quality. Sigh. Anyone else drive themselves crazy with this kind of picky-consumer bullshit?

You might be a bit picky but in the end if it bothers you, it bothers you. I own both of these monitors and like them both. You said they have the same vertical resolution which I did not understand, the 2007wfp will be 1680x1050 and the 2407wfp will be 1920x1200 native. The 24" should be sharper. Really if you want to increase your desktop area and keep the size down you may want to use two 2208wfp monitors. This is the setup I use for work and love them.

Eh Lancer... 2407wfp > 2208wfp is not a smart move. You loose size, resolution and quality :confused:

kamalyka, you could have checked the size of the panels before you bought it.

Also, you can check the serialnumber of your monitors. If it ends on a L, it's a S-IPS, if it's a S, it's S-PVA.

Both flavors (IPS / PVA) have their positive factors. I like the IPS more in comparison to PVA.

@Lancer
They're FP, not WFP. FP's are 1600x1200. I agree with jcv that 2208wfp sounds like a bad move, don't the 22" screens use PVA panels?

@jcvjcvjcvjcv
All 3 end in L and have panel codes V1B22 HN210... They're all LG S-IPS panels, I think.

Right now I actually put one away and have the 2407wfp in between 2 2007fp's. While the purpleness of the 2007fp does bother me, the colors are all pretty close on the 3 panels, and, there's zero dead pixels out of all 6144000 pixels available. all 3 are on Allsop corner stands so they're about 3" higher than the default stand can usually go. Good for me since I'm tall.

Eh, 6 megapixels of desktop space, despite the 2407wfp and 2007fp not perfectly lining up, aint the end of the world ;-) I prefer having the widescreen in the middle so I can watch widescreen movies.... Maybe I'll give this a few weeks and see how I feel. For some reason this morning I was having my usual consumer anxiety bullshit but now I feel better. Seems to happen with no matter what I purchase.

To tell if they are S-IPS, look at them at an angle on a black background. If you see a purple tint, they are S-IPS. This reply page works well enough for that. I am pretty sure PVA and TN don't do that.

@Crucible1001
Kinda confused, I already know my panels are S-IPS. I said so in the beginning...

I also checked serial and panel codes, LG panels for all 3.

The 2208WFP is a TN monitor. Ignore it if you love quality monitors. TN is only good for price, that'a all. And well, if price was your primary objective you would have picked up some Acer / Samsung TN [insert word].

Just sell the 2407wfp and the third 2007FP and get a 3007WFP-HC. Double 2007FP in Pivot with a 3007WFP-Hc between them is the perfect setup :cool:

I got used to no detail in the yellow-white area in my S-PVA monitor. I got used to the stupid contast shifting in the greys / blacks on that same PVA monitor. Well, only getting some red glow is a good deal to get rid of it, imo.

Hey man... I can't deal with the 3007wfps noisy power supply. I am really crazy and into silent computing and probably have one of the quietest rooms/computers because it just helps me focus a whole lot better to have silence when I need it. So, 3007wfp is a no good. I realize some people aren't bothered by this but it's almost universally accepted that the 30" monitors have noisy power supplies. The only one's which may not, at this point, are the Apple and Doublesight which have external power bricks... But, Ive read reports for the lp3065, 3007wfp, and 305t all having noisy, buzzing power supplies.

bummer to hear, you can try locating an older model dell 2001, where I don't believe there was the dreaded purple IPS issue.

btw, if you are going to sell any of your 2007 fp's, how much were you looking @? ;)

Heh, I find just the opposite, the noise from my computer fans blocks out my tinnitus allowing me to concentrate :p
