i just installed vista business i got through school. specs as follows: C2D 6300, intel DG965RY MB, 2GB patriot DDR2 667.

when i ran cpuz it says i have a multiplier of 6, when i load the computer w/ TAT, it still stays at a multiplier of 6?? in xp, it always jumped to 7. the speeds stay at 1.60Hz whether loaded or not??

whats the deal? why will it not jump up to 1.86Hz?? i did notice that the voltage was at 1.050 in cpuz, but about 1.23 in the bios?? could this be it??

again, i'm a nood w/ all this undervolting and such, any help or education would be appreciated, thanks.
 
you're supposed to have a multiplier of 7 on an E6300. (multis don't change under load.. I've only seen throttling on laptops.. though it could be possible... just not at stock settings on a desktop) Navigate into your BIOS and change it to 7. Make sure you have the ltest version of CPUZ also.

CPU-Z reads the voltage wrong sometimes (most times?).. plus there is v droop:

EDIT: if you tell me your exact motherboard, I can show you how via BIOS.

voltage =/= multiplier
 
It's called EIST, Enhanced Intelligent Speedstepping or something like that. If you are annoyed by this technology, you can always disable it in the BIOS.
 
Ok, so let's just start over.

Core 2 duos have a stepping technology which can't be shut off (nope, not even in bios). However, because it changes the multiplier as soon as you need the extra speed, this isn't a big deal.

Now, as far as why you wouldn't be getting the higher multi when under load, it may be that cpuz is having issues under Vista. Anyone?

yea, that first part i learned, but what is confusing to me now is that even when loaded w/ TAT, both TAT and cpuz are reporting only 1.60Hz, which coincides w/ a 6 multiplier. so even when loaded, that extra multiplier is not showing up in vista??!!
