just wondering if i can underlock in 2-D mode to save on power and to run cooler as summer is here? and will it have any negative effects

I see that you have a silencer. Doesn't the hot air just leave the case?

it does but i thought it might decrease the power draw? or does it not make a difference?

Underclocking isn't always a great idea, because certain components of the card may cease to function. What card developers often do is take the same card and clock it differently for different versions (duh). This, however also means that developers make certain parts of the card, more pixel pipelines for example, unlockable at higher clock speeds on their boards. Just be warned that certain functions of your card may cease to exist if you decide to go through with it.

OBXOR is smokeing crack, if you change your 2D clocks and 2D voltage you'll be fine, then when you load up a game it grabs the 3D settings and goes at it, lot of people do that

Do you think that this kind of underclock could work on Leadtek GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128 MB? Can too low voltage (from 1.3 to 1.2) break the card? I would use Nibitor 2.9.

2D
From: Core: 300 MHz, Memory: 450 MHz, Voltage: 1,3 V
To: Core: 100 MHz, Memory: 230 MHz, Voltage: 1,2 V

3D (no changes)
Core: 500 MHz, Memory: 450 MHz, Voltage: 1,4 V

I think coolbits lets you set 2D clocks, might need some tweaking thou.

ive been doing this for over a year with my x850xt, its a great way to decrease heat, and in my case even got it to the point where i could run the card passively while sitting in 2d so thats also a nice way to quiet things down as well.

and no i didnt lose any pipelines are anything in the process. the only thing i found is that you need a certain core and memory speed which depend on both the card and what resolution you are running in 2d or else things get kind of garbled.

I did this on my 7900GT, it's a great way to decrease heat. Stock was 450MHz, I lowered it to 350 and idle temps went from 39C to 35C.

What program are you using to do this?

im using atitool to do underclock the card. in 2d i take it down to 250/400 and then in 3d i bring it up to 565/600. i use the built in 3d detection to change between the 2d and 3d clocks then to change the fan speed i just use one setting, under 55 degrees there is 0 fan, then i bump it up progressively from there. so when in 3d it pumps out more heat and the fan fires up and when in 2d it doesnt make enough heat to get above 55 so the fan stays off.

i now have a zalman vf700 on it so just leave than on its slowest setting since it doesnt plug into the cards fan header so i cant control it that way.

lowering them is barely going to reduce heat/power consumption during idle modes. It is barely being used in the first place
