I have a asus maximus with 4gig ram, and a e6700. Power supply is 650 watt antec seasonic with both an 8pin and a 6 pin connector for the card. All of these reviews show 3dmark 06 scores around 17000. In windows xp and vista I am getting about 12220. I know the reviewers are using quad core chips, so is that whats bloating the scores?
 
Play a real game with maxed out details, AA, and AF. THEN see whether it is under performing. 3dMark is not really a good gauge of anything anymore.

And yes, the CPU score bloats it.
 
The CPU score surely wouldn't inflate the score by that much. Usually 1000 or 2000 points max. I've found that 3dmark is the best way to check if a card is functioning properly in terms of drivers and other issues. Its the same every time its run, and you can compare to properly running systems. Other than that, its worthless.
 
Just as a reference.

Wolfdale @ 3.8 scores a tick under 19k 3dmarks on my system with beta 8.8's.

Have you made sure that you have the lowest quality settings engaged in CCC (mip maps levels on lowest, everything disabled/application controlled)?

GFT ! 3dmark is useless.

I hope he didnt buy it to "play" 3dmark :p
 
While I agree that 3dmark is by no means the "tell-all" for video cards, like stated above it is a good way to test to make sure your computer is running properly. (drivers usually).

12*** is WAY to low for a 4870 X2. Do you have your motherboard drivers installed? I would get the latest to be safe. I've seen plenty of people scoring 19-20k with this card.

Do you have Catalyst AI disabled by any chance? You need ot have it enabled to use both GPU cores.
 
Ok so I ran it again, this time getting 13190 in windows xp. The motherboard drvers are up to date. This is the second motherboard I have tried it on. How do I know if the card is getting enough power?
 
3dmark 06 can vary huge on cpu speed alone

gain almost 2000 points overclocking from 3.8 to 4.0 on my q9450
 
I just found a review that used a e6700. Under windows xp he got 13123 which is almost exactly what I got.
 
Try OCing. I have seen 3dmark scores shoot up because of CPU bottleneck.
 
Yeah, after reading that review it doesnt look like anything is wrong with the card. I think I am going to return the maximus though, it runs pretty hot. Newgg has an open box p5e3 deluxe x38 for 219.00 right now.
 
I went from 14400 to 17500 by switching my motherboard from an old 975x board to a new x48 board and an e8400 @3.6. My old cpu was an e6600 @3.2 so not much difference there. The big increase in performance was the new modern board opening up the bandwidth for my 4850CF. Crysis was decent before but now it is a SOLID 30+FPS in all high/very high at 1920x1200. Every other game already ran at insane frame rates before so I don't see much of a difference in them but crysis is huge. If your e6700 is not overclocked then I would say your score is right in line with what you should see.
 
I am putting after market heatsink on my cpu, and will overclock. The maximus has some nice options, there are presets for a couple different speeds. I have ddr2800 in there right now, whats the highest I can overclock the e6700? I have ran it at 3.0 so far. A little hot but shoudnt be a problem after the heatsink is installed.
 
I would say 3.4 would be easily doable unless you got a dud. I could run my e6600 @3.4 99% stable but the weird random things would happen here and there so I dropped it to 3.2 and it was 100% stable like that for almost 2 years before I just upgraded. I run the e8400 at 3.6 because honestly there is just no noticeable improvement after that in any game I tried so there is no point in taxing the cpu and opening up windows for instability. I would shoot for 3.2 if I were you or 3.4 if you're feeling lucky ;) GL!
 
Getting 19,002 on 3dmark06 and P13,754 in Vantage with a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz. Running Beta 8.8
