Well I'm thinking about buying the woman a small point and shoot digital camera. She is always buying disposable cameras and that costs nearly $10 bucks after devloping 2 sets of 27 exposures. I'm wanting a small camera so she could easily carry it around with her when she wanted to take pictures. I'm looking at spending $250 or less.

As for myself, I'm still drooling over a d50, but I'll just have to wait.

The A520 will feel a bit plasticky if you are used to higher end cameras, but if she has been using disposable cameras, it will feel like a million dollars. The A520 build quality is awesome, I would definitely get one of those!

with the a520, the picture quality will be much better too... (not to mention all the other advantages of a digital camera that she will love)

I agree the A520 is nice, but lately I have been a sucker for IS. So I would choose the Panasonic DMC-LZ2 or DMC-LZ1 which both are under 250. IS helps with getting sharp pics and good shots in the dark.
