So i splurged on 1600W G2 EVGA power supply with 50% off promo. I wanted to futureproof but now I'm worried my system isn't even going to run close to 20% on idle. I will be running 2 voltage modded 980 ti sli overclocked both with hybrid cooler. Will in the way future (next year) get the skylake-E and overclock a 6 core one to max with 110i GTX equivalent (maybe swiftech instead). I will probably have close to 4 ssds, 2 large size hard drives, 8-12 fans. I just want to future proof so I never ever ever have to worry if my power supply is enough. This is my 3rd time getting a bigger wattage PSU. from 550 to 750. Wanted to go 1200W but it isn't available so I just said screw it and got 1600W lol.

Yeah there's no issues. The thing is Haswell compliant so it can be under 1% usage and be fine. The plus size is the capacitors are overkill so you'll have nice clean power to OC with. :)

I have an EVGA P2 that I've drawn over 600W through one PCIe connector... They are built well. Also I wouldn't necessarily repeat that. Obviously going 4x over spec is at your own risk.

I think he is worried about losing efficiency at idle.

It wont harm the PC or PSU and the extra heat will not be great enough to cause a problem, nowhere near the heat produced under load.
Extra power used may be in the order of 10 to 15%.
So at say 120W idle it may use an extra 20W at the wall.

yea i was mostly worried about inefficiency and running a lot more wattage on idle but the G2 1600 works well at 10%. still 80+ at 85% and gives plat at 50% load of 92% so it is 2% more efficient on load and 3% less efficient on idle. I think I will take that trade over the 1300W G2
