China says it is not afraid of the internet. Matter o’ fact, it took the internet and its friend YouTube out to the playground at recess and kicked its ass.

China is not afraid of the Internet, its Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, even as access to the popular video sharing site YouTube appeared to be blocked. YouTube has unavailable for users in China, which filters the Internet for content critical of Communist Party rule, since late on Monday.

Comes as no surprise. Probably saved a ton of bandwidth too.

The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
There's nine hundred million of them in the world today.
You'd better learn to like them; that's what I say.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They come from a long way overseas,
But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese food.
The waiters never are rude.
Think of the many things they've done to impress.
There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching, and Chess.

So I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin, and yang-ese.

I like Chinese thought,
The wisdom that Confucious taught.
If Darwin is anything to shout about,
The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt.

So, I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please.

All together.

The rest of the world should take note and block Cable/Television and all the idiotic websites.
It will help our species return to our mental evolution and save tons of bandwidth :p

Think of all the priceless knowledge from youtube that will be denied to young Chinese kids LOL

On the subject at hand, who expects less from a Communist government? They had their hope and change during the Cultural Revolution, and this is the "people's" move....

China says it is not afraid of the internet.
If China weren't afraid of the Internet, they wouldn't block it at all; they'd be indifferent.

I take the heavy filtering as a sign that their government is VERY afraid of the Internet.

As Serious Sam says, "Chinese?! I LOVE Chinese!, never could eat a whole one though.:p

if you read other news articles... they blocked it to prevent users looking at Tibet videos, and other horrible things they have done to minority groups.. go china! keep killing people off until your rich... thats a good philosophy... worked with the indians.

You know, I don't side with the Chinese often and I am gonna get flamed for this, but Tibetans are a horrible terrorist group working on restoring a theocracy that oppresses its people (think Afghanistan). A lot of people look at Asia and see all those poor Buddhist groups being put town by governments and the sort and say bad things about Korea and China, but a lot of those groups are actually very violent and extreme, like what we are facing with the Taliban. You should see some of those so called peaceful anti Japan rallies in Korea. Asia is so not a happy bunny place and we are seriously not helping by supporting some of the extremest groups, just meddling in things yet again we don't understand.

Flame shield ON!

your joking right?
china KILLED OVER A MILLION, SOME ESTIMATE 3 MILLION TIBETANS... how is that liberating when there are less than 2 million tibetans left in tibet... the rest are now han chinese.

if america was invaded by germany in ww2... would americans today be terrorists for trying to kick out the germans? FARK NO!

use your brain.... they are far from terrorists. there is a 10000:1 kill ratio... at a minimum... for every 1 chinese person that has died by a tibetan in the last 60 years... at least 10,000 tibetans were killed, starved to death or forced to death via government abortions.

Wars really aren't pretty and generally speaking the side with the government behind it has the bigger guns, terrorist usually have the lower body count and China has a policy which I think is a step in the right direction and they are not afraid to say it, "If you kill 1 Chinese citizen, we kill 1000 of yours." the rest are just there run of the mill population control measures which are dumb, genocidal and making them look really really bad, but when your responsible for a fifth of the worlds population and the resources of a 2nd world nation things look a little desperate. Go over there and see how bad it is, the only real solution to there problems is to drop a few nukes and let them rebuild, the only reason they haven't resorted to that is cause they haven't solved that pesky fall out problem.

ranger.. are your parents related?

how would nukes solve any of these problems... that sounds like your more of a terrorist then umm peaceful buddhist tibetans that didn't deserve this shit.

razer... your not worth my time.

violence is never the answer. blocking youtube isn't going to deny that china has killed 60 million + people in the last 70 years...

chinese and minorities alike...

their minority popluation is less than 25% of what it was 70 years ago after their "peaceful liberation"

Underdogs sell papers better then a big government being kicked in the balls by those mean monks. China has to deal with things on a scale which is literally unimaginable to you. Its a place where if the people chose to rise up, there would be no stopping them there are so many, so yeah information is a dangerous thing there.

And when did I ever insult your parents and then say I'm to high to debate or argue with you?

When did I ever say that was a lie, all I said was they have reason to fear information and reason to control it in its own borders? With a radical revolution there is always radical violence and wars of extermination, kinda one of those sucky things of history. No new region has ever come into power with out purging elements of the old. China has committed what to us seems like genocide because of the scale of things they are dealing with. As animals we are the cruelest and the most senseless in our acts, information being our most dangerous weapon. These were all groups with influence, religion over government and the sort.

Oh, solution...Hydrogen bomb, little fallout! Must submit this to my Chinese masters.

Every government is afraid of the Internet. It puts power into the hands of the little guys; thus is a threat to authority.

agreed sockman...

what is baffling me today... is how many americans are "against america becoming socialist/communist" or whatever they believe is happening to the american dream..

but then when it comes to china, they are 100% loving their horrible regime, that is part communist, part facist, and a whole lot of anti-american.

i don't understand it. my parents are the same way. no compassion for other people suffering, as long as money is involved they support china. however, when it comes to america, they do not want to be socialist.

if american's love china's government so much, why don't they fully embrace it for themselves?

i have the same argument with chinese college students i've often worked with while at uw-milwaukee... if you hate america so much, china is so supperior and never wrong, then why are you here?

Meh, I would never wanna live in Chine, horrible, horrible country (pretty culture though, always been more of a culture person myself). I started this out with that nothing is as clear cut and dry as people make it out to be, sorta like Saddam Hussein may have been evil incarnate, but he was able to keep peace in a culturally divers and often very hostile towards one another country, something that Americans who think the worlds should run on their clock...which historically speaking is actually the British clock and charter, do not and will never understand. What works there won't work here, I don't want here, so why the hell should I expect them to want it there. People with little to nothing always want better, they just don't know what the true price of that better will be and most of the time, its a lot worst. I frankly like it here in the states, love the US, but don't like the fact that we are turning EU socialist. Europe, nice place to visit, great vacations, but I absolutely hated living there.

ranger i understand what you are saying...

however with china... the tibetans were not looking forward to being invaded by tibet in the 1950s... they didn't have a military large enough to fight a post ww2 military (out of date china was, but advance compared to nomadic/midevil bands of tibetans)... the tibetans that resisted in the early 1950s were easily defeated, especially those who escaped to nepal where they were handed over back to the chinese.

its to complex... to explain... but in short... they were invaded. china re-wrote history to their advantage.

you can compare it to... a 1940's white american education to 2009 white american education. in the 1940s americans learned stereotypes and the government's version of what happened to our natives. in the 2000's you prepare for college courses where fake history = fail on college prep tests... and if you tried using those arguments in a modern college classroom you would fail your course.

china has the pen that writes history for all chinese, (han and minorities alike), to their liking to fit their viewpoint... to control their people. those who have suffered at the hands of the government... have no voice... since the government says the suffering never happened, that their grandparents were not butchered, that there mom was not forced to abort their siblings, that their father never died in a prison. it never happened.

thats scary.

Who says that something happened in the past if you are never taught about it? Fake history is relative, the only real history is that what you lived, the rest is a wonderful bedtime story. First thing you learn in college history is that history is written by the people holding the pen, so you study for your class you study that editions history which is not necessarily real history either. History is invented everyday, so are the prejudices. They are influenced by everything from media to political opinions, China just happen to invade Tibet during the Cold War when anything a communist country did was EVIL, note this was still the time when we considered INDIANs the bad guys and cowboys/cavalry the good guys protecting our pushes for expansionism and progression. To us the Tibetans were nothing more then a primitive culture, barely a country, we had little to no concern over. Would it have happened 100 years earlier, let alone 10 or 20 it would of been a footnote in history. The fact that the commies did it, in a time when commies did all evil made it an outrage (just like say Korea and Vietnam). Also had the Chinese captured and executed the Dali Lama, the struggle would of been long forgotten like those good man that died fighting in Korea. Taiwan has more of a right to exist then Tibet, they have a government that's not based on religion nor oppression and if Tibet is every free and the Dali Lama returns, he will be dead with in 5 years and political infighting will create a 100 years of civil/religious war.

That one child per family policy is killing off all their women and leaving a huge number of men with no one. Huge numbers of people will grow old at the same time. I wonder if they would be bold enough to enforce a one child per woman policy...

60-70 million people? Right, so economic policies that were unsuccessful and left people poor are "killing people", right? The current government has acknowledged that the Cultural Revolution and the Great Step Forward were economic failures that resulted in poverty. That does not mean that they went out and killed 60 million people. Nice job twisting the facts to your advantage there, eh? And you think you're speaking the truth? Give me a break.

Evidence for your statement please.

well were both right...

alot of people were forced to starve to death. when china took over tibet, they often tried making them grow rice or other warm client farm goods... they were not alot to grow traditional food for periods of time.

obviously rice does not grow well in the snow, or tundra. end result... thousands died of starvation.

then they had rations... since they were not allowed to eat traditionally as during the 1950-1960's alot of traditions were banned by the government... (or the food was taken by soldiers, lots of reasons why there were foot shortages... they also raided the temples that held surplus food since they said surplus is evil.. )..

so what did they do? buddhists in tibet for a major part do not kill insects, animals etc... often the muslims were their butchers, and tibetans often ate meat in small jerky like portions... (mostly consuming butter/barley etc)...

so in order to get their rations they had to kill a bucket or more of insects (to break down their religous beliefs)... most people would or could not, and would starve as well.

tibetans are just an example... but many groups suffered in the 1950-1960s. you cannot say it was a majority of bad government choices...

in all western/southern regions and NE manchuria:
THIS HAPPENED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY NOT JUST TIBET

phase 1:
CHINA DOUBLED ITS SIZE IN THE LAST CENTURY THROUGH BRUTAL MILITARY FORCE...

phase 2:
cultural/religious traditions were largely banned, made illegal and reduced to smaller portions (or put into hiding/secrecy)... or the people were killed...

a. people from many religions (buddhist, christians, taoists)... forced to do things against their beliefs (sex with kids, sex with monks/nuns, forced to kill their parents who refuse to denounce jesus/buddha)

-charged for the bullets... after shooting their own families

b. forced abortions, beatings, false imprisonments

c. language made illegal, religious pictures often taken/burned/made illegal, statues/artificats, important items... taken... much "metal" cultural objects were melted down or sent to a junkyard...

d. language was banned for non-han chinsese... that means over 75 minority groups... not just tibetans (at least 100 million people)...
-punishment death or communist camp or prision labor camp
-there are prisons with over 100k people in them for non-criminal crimes

PHASE 3:
"making people chinese"

-being a minority for a long time was against the rules... you had to be "chinese"... there is no such thing as chinese. the majority population are "han".. .which is like how in america for a long time americans were "european or white" decent...

-they were forced to learn only mandarin or for some lucky groups cantonese (not their own language, and there were at least 75 minority groups, maybe 175)...
-children were sent to "red" or rethinking camps...

you get the point... theres to much bs to list.
alot of peopled burried artifacts... i know miao/hmong helped burry 2500 year old artifacts... which the "yellow king" china's famous emperor... came from their region. tibetans often hid them in secret areas... or died being cought... etc

PHASE 4:
denial, false education... and accusing the west as liars.

if nobody is taught the truth, how can the minorities be telling the truth? they are all liars right... none of it happenend.

most of the world doesnt care as long as they got $$
