I just downloaded and installed the GRAW demo, and it installed the aegia ppu driver with it. Now I was playing around with the "boxes" demo in the aegia ppu driver settings.

It is running in software mode, and runs totally perfect. Isint it supposed to only run good with a PPU installed? I dont get what a PPU is going to add, if my CPU and GPU can do this demo perfectly without a ppu...

Probably a dumb question

I'm going to guess that simple demo can run well using software emulation to "approximate" the Aegia PhysX technology. However, once offloaded to a PPU your CPU usage would go down and those calculations will be hardware accelerated. That demo is just to give you a peek behind the technology. At least I think so. @_@

if you open the tray icon and then play around with that box demo, your cpu usage will be 100%... at least mine is (ahtlon xp 2800). maybe if you have a fx60 it wouldnt be at 100%, but it wouldnt hurt to have the ppu, i just wish we could find them in more places online.

Mind showing a pic of this boxes demo? Chances are it detected that you have no Ageia cards, and is showing a much slower demo.

Yeah they probably need to triple the amount of boxes to force a slow down so people dont ask that question ;o)

Well considering it's a tech demo "tripling the number of boxes" would make sense, no?

Not true at all. Some will, some will not.

Most do. It's just how games work. Only exceptions are the ones that don't need to be continiously processed(solitare) or have a processing/framerate cap (Console Emulators/C&C).

Doesn't a bottleneck by definition mean that one component is operating at 100%, and as a result the load on other components is limited to less than their potential?

Implying that if your video card is the bottleneck in your system (which as far as I'm aware is usually the case) then your CPU won't be fully utilised?

CPU time is a non issue really. If every thing is perfect 100% CPU usage would be great, but since pretty much every thing has a bottle neck, your process may be blocking for IO or some other system calls enough it doesn't actully push the CPU to 100%.
