I am not using any form of adblock (I am pretty sure I am not), but I do not see the newegg ad at the top? Where did it go? i just wanted to browse over there and now i need to type it into the address bar... bleh!

Same here. I know newegg isn't going the way of Monarch, so it's just a technical glitch. :p

Most advertisers pay per click. Using that instead of typing the ads isn't really technically cool. Since you're probably buying something from them anyway its kind of a grey area, but technically not cool.

However, the [H] gets paid per click. But that's not what this is really about. The ad is missing, so something's gone haywire. Wasn't Cliff doing something to the forums recently?

It came up. I'm mentioning it before the admins do. Would you like me to not warn driz?

Ummmmm I am sure that Kyle would rather you click thru the ad than type it in the address bar, seeing as it supports the [H].

Not if Newegg gets upset and pulls the ad... I run a site myself and I can speak from experience, its definitely a gray area.

I think people are attacking the O.P. for something he is not doing wrong.
He specifically says that he -wanted- to click on the newegg banner to make a purchase. It is not his fault that the banner is missing. Just because some advertiser (or advertising resource such as [H]) fails to present him the commercial that they intended should not stop the O.P. from going about his purchases.

See above. No need to warn driz. He isn't doing anything wrong. Newegg doesn't care if [H] gets their credit for a click, as long as they get the SALE.
He's not using an adblocker (neither am I, and -I- don't see a newegg banner, either)

Then maybe KYLE should make sure that the banner is actually PRESENT to click.

Technically, I need to browser to newegg.com before I can even consider making a purchase from them. I recall reading that they do not take phone orders.
Some people like to "browse" stores before making a purchase at a store. While I was not dead set on buying something, there was a good chance that I might have. I think I ended up never going there after all.
<end thread derail>

The main point of my post was that I noticed the lack of advertising and was wondering whether this is a semi-permanent change or a glitch.

To make sure Hardocp gets "credit" for the sale (makes sure Newegg knows advertising here pays), after you purchase, pick HardOcp from the "where did you hear about newegg" question at checkout. Of course it's nice to hit the double whammy with the click then pick, but sans banner it's the other good way to reinforce their advertising here.

Just to be clear about some things......

HardOCP is NOT paid per click. The NE ads are paid by views. And actually, the forum ad is not charged for, it is what the industry calls a "value add." Now, NE certainly does look at how many click throughs they get and they hold click throughs that terminate in an order being placed very highly.

So yes, if you are going to buy from Newegg, its greatly helps HardOCP and HardForum if you click through the ads here. Thanks for the support. And as Oldie says, PLEASE let Newegg know you heard about them through HardOCP. Obviously, Newegg is one of the companies that allows us to keep content financed here and quite frankly, they are easy to work with and bring a good value to our readers. I would hate to lose them as an advertiser.

And yes, I let them know that the ad is missing....hopefully they will have that fixed ASAP.
