Ok, got my watercooling rig, have talked about it before, but now I have a seperate problem. I've been using a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water *Prestone ready fill, comes pre-mixed*. Well, I just took a peak into my res today, and saw some gunk growing on the top of the res. At first I thought it was water vapor, so I shook the case. Bad move. I saw this stuff tear off in chunks and fly through my watercooling. Now my temps are up, Im pretty sure this stuff is stuck in my radiator or pump somewhere causing flow problems. But what was it?? I know of no additives that were in the system that would cause that. The soda bottle I used to fill the system was washed 3 times and rinse-washed with the antifreeze twice before I used it *yes, two years of college chemistry here, I know how to prep a container*. I was not using anything else in my system and last time I drained it I cleaned out all the parts. So what gives??

Nevermind, found out what it was. Prestone and other manufacturers that make pre-diluted antifreeze add a detergent to help clean out water ways in the engine. But, because the engine hits temps around 200 F, the detergent is kept in a liquid form and doesn't coagulate. Well, because my temps were lower than that, it coagulated around the top of my reservoir, causing the film that I saw. I took a look at my old res that I was using, and now I notice the same gunk that was built up around the top. Well, needless to say right now Im on my spare pc, tomorrow the watercooled one will be drained, cleaned with alcohol and hot water, and I will be using just distilled water from now on. *sigh* and that antifreeze looked so damn cool with its green color. Oh well.....
