I want something expandable that will kick a** in a cute small box. I'm an experimenter, not a gamer. There'll be OS images for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and VM's of Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8. I used to use Kodachrome but now I Photoshop.


This may suffice for several years:

Board: Asus Z77-I Deluxe

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770S

CPU Cooler: Xigmatek Durin D982

RAM: G.SKILL Ares 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)

Video: on board Intel HD Graphics 4000 (to start with)

OS drive: SanDisk Extreme SSD 120GB 2.5” SATA3 - SDSSDX-120G-G25

Data drive: Toshiba 256GB 5600rpm 2.5" SATA2 (from my inventory)

Optical: LG Super Multi Blue BD, HD DVD(!), DVD, CD in external case via eSATA (really ancient but functional, 1/2 height, from my inventory)

Case: SilverStone SG05BB-450

Just my preferences.
