Who has had a good/bad experience with them? I have a 400w, it works fine but AsusProbe (don't know how reliable this is) says 12v - 11.776v, 5v - 5.026v, 3.3v - 3.312v, vCore - 1.39. Runs fine with 2.2GHz 3400 S939 A64, 1GB RAM, 120GB HDD, 6800NU OCed to 365/850 or so. Can't OC proc, cause it heast up even under XP90 and is unstable in Prime95 even with vCore bumps...Otherwise good PSU and I haven't had a problem. I've heard so many complaints about them, PLEASE NO TROLLING, just your experience WITH THE PSU not RMA or anything.

Use a multimeter to measure the votages coming out of the PSU, all motherboard sensors are not as accurate than a cheapy multimeter
 
I think my dad has one (he's an electrical engineer) but how would I test? Post tut for n00b please.
 
i have a 400w one in a pc i never use so i voted for them. i would never put one in a box i was serious about tho.

I still have an Ultra X 500W in my wifes box. Its still working with zero problems.
 
I recently bought an Ultra X2 550w, and the 120mm fan broke after 20 minutes of being on :) Great looking PS, and the modular cables are nifty, but it was the first and last time I buy an Ultra, it was very cheaply made, the fan grill was flimsy. I send it back for an RMA and bought an Aerocool.
 
i ditched my x connect 500wt when my 7800GTX 512 would render in 3d and cause a over .5 power sag down to about 11.49 but 12.03 normally.(checked with multimeter, not pc probe crap)
 
I'm about 95% sure my x-connect just fried/shorted itself/something along those lines...
 
i have seen an xconnect turn into a smoke grenade during a lanparty. it was funny until i realized i had an xconnect too

Ya, Xconnects seem to be really sketchy, some work, some explode.
 
Really seems like a trolling kind of poll considering we're talking about a power supply that hasn't been made for about a year. :rolleyes:
 
Aren't they also designed by PowMax?

If so, I say stay away. I had a PowMax 400W that was supposed to be solid as a rock. Only to find out it was only pushing 200W when it fried itself out on my Tbird rig.

Pissed me off to no end. If they are indeed made by the same company, I say keep the casing but throw away the actual PSU.

i have one of the first 500 watt ones that came out i have had no problems with it. i picked up another one about 1/2 year later and it was pure junk

I bought mine about 6 months ago.
 
Bought my 500W a little over a year ago from TigerDirect, it's been running awesome.

I changed the fans in it, though and removed the grills.
Perhaps better cooling = more reliability?
The fans blow much less air, but it's a helluva lot quieter (silent now! :))
It seems to breathe better, though.
Rails are insanely stable 12.30V 3.33V 5.55V etc
tested with a multimeter
these things don't budge with 100% load all day/week/month!

No the original X-Connect was OEM'd by Young Year...a not very good company. The newer models and the X-finity's (correct me if I am wrong jonny) are all Wintech units. A generally good company.
 
I put a 500W dark chrome one into a Mod case since it was the only thing with decent looks at the time. Knew it was a risk.

It started off pushing an Intel 3.6HT, a 6600GT, and a 120Gig SATA. Never flinched.

Then I won a 7800GTX. Never flinched.

Then I bought a 512Mg GTX, still all fine. My guess is I only run one SATA HDD, one SATA Optical, and minimal lighting (all fiber optic via LEDs). So I never really stressed it beyond 300w or so?
 
I dunno. Drives don't put that much load on a system.. just a lot of variance on a load.

Me, I'd be terrified putting a 3.6 and 7800GTX together with a lot of PSU's.. so I guess you're doing all right.

I'm not one to talk about high power consumption. I only have an Athlon64, two 6600GT's (don't even use aux power) one HDD and two opticals. That's it. I think a Thermaltake Purepower 480W could run my system. :D

They actually sell SATA Disk drives? or are you using a SATA--ATA adaptor?

To answer your first question, yes, they do make SATA opticals.

You mean SATA optical, right? Yeah. Plextor makes a SATA optical. I'm sure there's others.

Problem with SATA opticals is that they don't move more information than would bottleneck a typical PATA controller. So if you go from a PATA to SATA optical, you really don't gain any performance.

I built a machine that was mostly for show for a client that was going to CES and I used the SATA Plextor. It worked well, but certainly not "faster," but inside it LOOKED COOL (UV reactive SATA cables helped that.) So it's one of those things.. bling vs. function. Priorities?

I'm waiting for the next revision of the Plextor SATA DVD burners... Then I can rid my system of IDE!!!!
 
I don't use anything but the Plextors SATAs anymore.

Three 712SAs, and now one 716SA. Quiet, no coasters, and no more IDE.
