Ultra Micro Fly Review

Spelling mistake on first page, it should be "...they have NOT finished..." not they have no finished, just trying to help u out.

also on page 4
The hard drive cage is secured by two screws which you don’t really need but provide a “lock down” for the cage - confusing sentence, my want to split it up or add commas to make it clearer.

Page 5
After putting it all together this case still is light-weight and looks real good.
-Either change real to really or very.

Page 6
The professor that helped me conduct these tests helped explain what these results mean and provided a few extra facts that may help better our understanding of decibel readings.
-May want to consider rewording it, like "A prof that assisted me while conducting these tests explained the basic concepts of decibels, which I will now try to explain to you" It's up to you, it just sounds bad, I think

Also, an overall suggestion: Try to avoid words 'you', 'your' or 'our'. Ever since 8th grade I've been taught not to use those while writing something formal, which I think you are trying to do. It helps it look more professional, and you probably are shooting for that.

Hope I helped.

thanks! all three corrected

After 9 pages it all kind of runs together....The Ultra people didn't get back to me in time with their edits. :p

Great review, looks like I'll be getting this instead of the qpack this summer (unless something even better comes out!). The part on decibels was good, you may want to add a general knowlege section to the site with information like this. One question about the decibels tho, if 21 is about silent and going up 10dB doubles the noise (and from your tests the dBs are around 30 with this case) what can we compare that to, because it obviously is still not silent How are the acrylic windows on the case? Do they scratch as easily as the qpack windows.

I know, I get terrible when I write term papers. I just wanted to help you out because this is something that interests me and I would like to see you succeed.

The windows are the same as the qpack but a little smaller.

The 10dB thing doesn't work from "silent" because you can't hear silent. It isn't even a scientific measurement...people just seem to think 10dB is double the noise level. More tests will be done in the future to compare the numbers.

As for the "you" thing...yeah they tell you not to do it in "formal papers" but then in Business Writing they tell you to use the "you view"....so who knows :)

Thanks for all your help! I was really hoping someone would help me out :) You should sign up for the forums on SFFClub and apply as a member as well.

Hi Steve, nice review there.

I was wondering about the build quality.
Is the case as filmsy as the X-QPack?

Cheers Steve.

Any high res shoots of the inside of the case at all please mate?

Some people at Toms Hardware and Anandtech didn't like me posting the link to the review on their site. Kinda funny when those two sites generated the most traffic to my website yesterday. God forbid we try to increase the knowledge of SFF computers out there.

So, for those that think computer websites are competing you got my postings taken down and no more "advertising" will be done.

For those of you that think computer websites should share information (and any website can post my review so long as I get credit for writing it) then I would like you to go to websites and share information about new cases or reviews such as this one.

I didn't create SFFClub to generate money or "steal" users from another website...it is meant to fill a void in the SFF community and help complement the other computer websites available. Notice all my advertisement revenue goes to charity. I loss money and time doing all of this :).

nice website steve. I'm actually thinking about putting together a cheap gaming PC in a SFF microATX case. Is there any other small mATX cases out there besides the ones listed on your website? My requirements are:

- smallest mATX case with at least one 120mm case fan, and can accomodate a regular full-size PSU and a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU/CNPS7700-CU CPU HSF

I'm looking to make a quiet SFF PC in the smallest case possible with a quite 120mm fan (or 2), Seasonic S12 quiet PSU, and Zalman CPU HSF and video card HSF. Thanks for the tips in advance.

Edit: I guess the Aspire X-Qpack is still the smallest mATX case with at least 1 120mm case fan and accomodates a full-size PSU?

nice review. Wish I had time to wait for the Ultra Fly instead of getting the QPack in December. Oh well..next system :)

Keep pestering them to fix the crappy handle. Looks like they addressed a lot of shortcomings: razor sharp edges inside, being able to remove a brace, additional cooling, more space between the PSU and dvd drive, crappy PSU, the cover being hard to put on, etc.

Ack, they did not fix the handle :(

I will still get one of these over the Q-Pack, the 3 panels alone make it worth it. The whole massive single panel idea makes modding hard, especially if you want to create a custom window in a windowless model.

Anyone found places selling these yet? I want to get one, especially if it will be cheaper than the Q-Pack.

Nice case! I hate the two tone look, but would definitely take that over the X-Qpack. X-Q is just a little too big... Still don't understand why manufacturers aren't adding some decent fans into the sides - lost opportunity!

Did you guys find the "Dimensions" page helpful? It was just an idea I thought of about 2hrs before I posted the review.

I read that and forgot to comment on it. I think it's a great idea that sets the review apart from many others. It will save a lot of guesswork for us would be buyers. Keep them coming.

Im still fairly new to the SFF scene. Two quick questions for you:

---nevermind, I answered my own questions with a bit of research.

Im currently using a small tower and would really like to move to a SFF case. I don't like the looks of the Qpack or this case. The cases I do like, such as the Qmicra, Shuttle and one other that I forgot the name of but has a tube style case, all require the purchase of a motherboard at a minimum. Apparently I am going to have to build my own case when I get back home later this year.

Does this case support full size ATX power supplies?

Will my SLI mATX mobo fit in it (eVGA 131-K8-NF44-AX NF4 SLi mATX)?

As long as the psu isnt abnormally larger than a normal atx psu (140-160mm) it will fit. The evga matx sli board will fit too.

Is this case available on e-tailers yet? I didn't seen anything on newegg or pricegrabber.

froogle has some stuff pull up but the boat they are on is taking forever I hear

Ultra needs to put this product up on their webpage as well. And screw Toms and Anadtech if they are trying to get you to take the link down; that is rediculous as their members deserve access to this information as well.

What is up with using the actual 5-megapixel images for the thumbnails? I stopped reading when I got tired of waiting for the pictures to load.

makes it easier to load the enlarged image...obviously. I figured I would try that out so you don't have to click on every picture and wait for it to load...probably not 56k friendly I admit

maybe I should start a poll about that....I can see both sides, if you only wanna click on a few pictures to enlarge than it would surely be annoying, but if you like looking at all the pictures, it helps out.

I like having them load...but the thing I don't like is for some reason when I look at the big pictures, I loose my scroll bars. If I expand the pictures to their full resolution, I can only see the top left portion. I appreciate high rez pics, but I like being able to see the whole thing. Also some of the pictures are clickable, but don't give u the full size pic anyways, they just link you to that same page again causing a page reload.
Jason

Definently need thumbnails and need to lower the size of the full-size image. The image shouldn't exceed 640x480 for convenience of viewing, especially for people like me who only run in 1024x768...

Back on topic, where can I buy this case? I really would like to get one sometime soon, and I have not seen any sites that are actually shipping them yet :D

thats actually not a problem with the links really...i think it has something to do with the fact that the images are so huge. I'll have to look into making that better.

All the links are correct though

Any stores carrying it yet?
and do you think the TT Typhoon would fit in it?? just bought one for the below system but didnt fit hehe... if not then the typhoon goes to trash I guess...

I don't know about Tom's (who's read that site in the last five years?) but I wonder if the readers at Anandtech noticed the big ALUMINUS banner ad across the top of every other page? Hello? They advertise there?
