Hi all
I have a wd 2500ks and it is running super hot. Early this morning I had it at 70c. Because the airflow in my case is poor, I just ordered another one. But in the mean time, I pulled the hdd from its slot and I am now using it outside the case. The thing is, even outside the case the temp reading is still 60c! What could be causing this? Would the fact that I am using the 4 pin power connector instead of the sata connector matter?

no, unless you used both power connectors nothing weird should happen. i guess it wouldn't hurt to try the other one if you can though. i think raptors get up to about 60c but they're spinning 33% faster than yours...
are you using some software to monitor the SMART reported temp or an actual temperature probe? 60c should feel like its burning hot, if it doesn't maybe its being misreported.

his runs at 60c too, so i guess thats normal
 
I am using speedfan, so its software.
The sides and top are never that hot, but the bottom, near the sensor, is always a lot hotter..
