I know I am new here but I wanted to share my experience... Hopefully I will be able to contribute more in the future that is on a more postive note :)

I will NEVER deal with this company again  The Ultra PSU was the last itme to be added replacing a generic PSU. When I installed the PSU the PSU's LEDs flickered went out and the PC would not post. I disconnected the PSU put my old one back in and now the system will not post with that one either. After extensive testing it comes out that the PSU spiked and took out my mother board though sparing my CPU. The system was all of 2 weeks old!

Ultra's stance is they will not do a dang thing. They claim they are not responsable for the install. They went on a long technical talk not realizing they were talking to a network engineer who has been around well over a decade. They tried to go down the bad electrical connection but I have a line conditioner as well as a hefty UPS so it was not my electrical problem like they tried to put the blame on.

So heed my warning, pass the word. If it works great. If it potentialy hurts anything you have the company will not do a single thing for you. Gotta love a company that does not stand behond its product :(

My System:
Lian Li PC-&HW Black w/Window & Blue LEDs - Asus P4C800E-Deluxe - P4 3.4ghz Prescott SL7E6 (OC 4ghz) - OCZ PC-3200EL Rev2 Platinum Dual Channel 1G - Ultra X-Connect 500w Blue Titanium finish PS - Swiftech H20-120 Rev 3 - Swiftech MCB-120 RadBox - WD Raptor 74gig SATA (Primary) - Hitachi 400gig SATA (Storage) - Pioneer DV-108 DVD/CD combo burner - Nvidia 6800 Ultra

hard to stand behind a product your not manufacturing
you could try Young Year Electronics

you can also raise bloody hell on Ultra's forums

Good Luck ;)

Ouch. Sorry man. If you want modular check the OCZ Modstream or maybe the superflower( anyone?).

I run a very large (large to me) message board hosting system so I am pretty sure I can stay clear of this one ;)

Their forums are so looking like crap.

Every other post is a "it blew", "it broke", "it can't handle it" post.
Why do they even keep them up?

Looks like some guy George has taken an intrest at my rant and might actualy give .02 unlike anyone else who has replied to my emails or phone calls.

Will have to call and see what he thinks he can do... Will follow up afterwards...

the Admin, I'll be interested to see the outcome
OCZ ended up replacing a bunch of rather expensive videocards not that long ago ove an issue with the first batch of 600 watt supplies they sold (completely addressed now)

play your cards well, there are alot of forums and spreading the bad news is a card to play
just in a reasonable manner. There is a fine line between negotiation and rant.

Well I called Ultra at:
Customer Support Number Technical Support
1-888-222-5487

Spoke to Rick and he has no idea who George is. I said he was the admin of the online forums and still nothing...

jeez, and to think i was thinking about purchasing this PSU, well, instead of that, i got an Aspire 520watt PSU with the 3 fans and i'm just glad that i havent gotten the X-connect...

You can also follw the thread over at their forums. Funny that I emailed him as requested and included my phone number. His forum reply was to PM him :(

I had the x-connect for a month, it was ok. My only gripe was that it ran extremely hot, and stayed hot for a while even when the computer had been off. My video card overclocks higher with the pcp&C :)

you are a network engineer and you bought an Ultra power supply?

Yeah well I would trust his choice in networking gear since he is a network engineer.....not a EE. If he was an EE and picked one well....then

you need to keep in mind the level of hype that surrounded it at one time
I met people that werent even computer enthisisast that where telling me about this great power supply, they where rather shocked when I gave them my opinion of it, and thought I was a lost case, going against the majority always makes you seem marginal and on the fringe

well that or simply l33t [H]ardcore :p

Ice Czar I don't suppose you have any more info on the Superflower modular supplies?

not really
I generally make recommendations based only on quantifiable testing
and well, Mike Chin has done both the Neopower and The Modstream
till I have someone of similar competance to supply info on the Superflower
Id go with the known quantity

Ok that is what I will pass along. It is a nice looking supply on paper...wish someone would check one out......Thanks!

Yes I am a network engineer. I have been in the field for well over a decade. I work with MS, Linux, Netware & Cisco. I am also hardware certified in Compaq, Dell & HP.

You want to talk servers lets go  You want to talk desktop well it is kinda the same but not really. Plus I did research and read many reviews giving this PSU a passing grade. Seeing I was not powering alot of stuff technicaly it should have been under utilized and had no problem powering this sort of system.
