Hey guys,

I'm pretty new here, so i though i would give it a chance and post what i'm thinking of buying to biult my PC. I have a couple question but 1st let me show you what i think of getting :

- ASII Extreme or EVGA 790i ultra SLI
- 9800 GX2 (Zoptac or XFX better ?)
- QX9770 processor or maybe down to QX9650 if there is not much difference
- Samsung 1TB and 1 WD Raptop 150GB Hard drive.
- A Killer K1 Ethernet Card
- Windows 64Bit Home Premium checked and didnt see need for Ultimate 64bit.
- LG Blu Ray Burner
- Memory (This is driving me crazy i cant make a decision for a 2x2GB)
- PowerSupply : Ultra X3 1000W or something else i dunno really i need help for this.
- Case i liked Nvidia Case, but the best to go for should be some Kandalf Cooling system Case i think. (Kandalf LCS or Amor LCS)
I really like XaserVI then i will built in my own Cooling system. ><

Question :

1) Motherboard : AS II Extreme (bcz it already has a pre-cooling system, but what i was kinda thinking was that that pre-conling doesnt actually individually cool the CPU, Memory or Graphic Card) or EVGA 790i Ultra SLI. which one will be better ?

2) PowerSupply : You can see what i'm going for and Ultra X3 is kinda the power supply everywhere on the web with good rating so i dunno, but i need to think about is 1000 Watt over kill in power from what i'm gonna have ? or would i need more then 1000 watts if i add another 9800GX2 and other optical and Hard drive ?

3) Memory : Memory has been very difficult to make a decision on, i looked at so many review and find the Super Talent or Corsair are the best to go with, but then you look somewhere else and see OCZ Memory are better, plus they have cooling system with them. So i dont really know what to get what do you guys think ? i would like 2x2GB and also keep them 1600-2000Mhz.

4) Does QX9770 and QX950 have a big difference beside price ? :p

5) What kind of Cooling system should i go for ? i would like the CPU and Graphic Card to be Cooled. what else should i also cooled ?
Is there a big difference between Air Cooling and Liquid/Water Cooling for the CPU ?

that's Anout it :) i hope you guys can help me, so i can start buying all this and start building my new little toy.

First, answer some of these questions:
  • How much are you willing to spend?
  • What is the primary purpose of this computer? Are you going to use it for multiple tasks?
  • Which monitor(s) are you using/planning to buy? Which resolution are you going to use?
  • How long do you expect this system to last? Are you planning on any incremental upgrades during that time?
  • How much do you know about overclocking? About air/water cooling?
 
i'm trying to keep @ +-4000 dollar.

-It will will be for alot of Multi Tasking, Playing High End Game, While surfing on the web or even watching Blu-Ray movie connecting to my 50 inch TV.
- I already have a 50 inche TV for when i'm gonna watch TV on it and buy a 30 or 25 inche Monitor.
- I dunno what resolution should i go for ?
- I would hope this last me a good 2 years, maybe upgrade GPU and CPU when i see something out there really worth the change.
- I dont know much about overclocking/air or water cooling, but i can alwasy learn once i directed to the right direction. I know now the water cooling is 99% the way to go, i just find this and look very intersting for me http://www.swiftnets.com/products/qpower-p180.asp
 
OK... I believe in not spending any more money than necessary, and I believe that you could build a rig capable of what you're hoping to achieve for half of that amount.

Depending on what you get, and how much you plan on overclocking everything, you may not even need water cooling. In fact, given your inexperience on both subjects, I would recommend not doing anything fancy until you understand everything you can about them. I know little about water cooling, so I'm not going to make any suggestions or recommendations on that end.

Frankly, you don't need one of the Extreme Edition processors that you've referenced in your OP. All of Intel's current processor are capable of good overclockers... you may want to look at the new 45nm quad cores (Q9450 and Q9550), which can reach the same approximate OC threshold as the more expensive QX processors for a fraction of their price.

I can't speak about any of the 790i SLI boards, but one alternative is the MSI P7N Diamond. It has the 780i SLI chipset, which would limit you to a dual video card setup, but it's considered one of the best (if not only) overclocking SLI motherboards available.

DDR3 RAM is stupid expensive, especially compared to the low prices that DDR2 RAM is selling at... and it offers no noticeable performance increase. Intel processors also don't benefit from any RAM overclocking, so high-speed and/or low latency RAM isn't as important. For your needs, you could buy a 4GB (2x2GB) kit of DDR2 800 or DDR2 1000 RAM from virtually any brand.

The 9800GX2 is a good idea in terms of video cards; one may even be enough for your HDTV/LCD. BFG, EVGA, and XFX are considered good companies to buy from, due to their warranties and their customer support.

It's debatable whether or not the Western Digital Raptor is worth the extra money -- I don't think so, but many others disagree with me -- but you really don't need the Killer K1 NIC. You will be more limited by the service your ISP offers you than by what your onboard NIC could handle.
 
If you can overclock, you can get a lower processor and overclock to same speeds.

Also, do not buy the 9800GX2. It is a waste of money. In some applications according to hardocp, the 8800GTX out performs due to more memory. Also, the 9800GX2 spikes and lags a lot. For the money, 8800GTX SLI is a better deal.

I assume you want SLI, otherwise you dont need a 1000watt power supply.

DDR3 is expensive, but it may be a year before we all get there and prices drop. Your call.

I would get a motherboard that supports hybrid power.....saves on cooling and power bill a lot.

Also, liquid cooling is the best way to go. But dont try it unless you have some help.

Otherwise, good airflow...some 120's becasue they are quieter. Also, keep in mind the quad cores and the 8800GTX give off a lot of heat. Most of the heat stays in case.
 
Well.. although you have a pretty high budget on spending on this build, I think most people on here will recommend parts that will be cheaper and provide peformance similar to the specs that you provided on your OP. Nowdays, you don't have to buy the expensive components to get great performance. I would do this if I was you and spend less on the PC parts and get a nice LCD. The PC parts I listed is already fast and can drive both 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600 res.

LCD Display - 30" Dell 3007WFP, HP LP3065 or Planar DoubleSight DS-263N. These 3 lcds are Non TN panels and have low input lag as opposed to other lcds.
CPU - Q6600, Q9300 or Q9450 processor
Mobo - Intel P35 chipset mobo or Nivida 780i mobo for SLI
Video - 1 x Geforce 9800GX2 or 2 x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI
RAM - 4 gigs (2x2) of DDR2 800
HDD - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB
PS - Corsair HX620 (modular)
 
What do you think if i buy Pre Made LCS case ?
Kandalf and Armor LCS are Pre-install Liquid system and they only $200.

- which motherboard has Hydrid ?
