A new company Deck is coming out with just what might be the ultimate bling-bling, modders keyboard. Certainly one of the most expensive @ $119 + shipping. The KB are backlit by LEDs for every key, plus LEDs around the the keys themselves. You can also change out the cover. And the back is diamond plate metal. Currently for sale at Performance PCs.
 
First off, it's been out over a year, and you can just buy it from their site directly.

Also, I don't believe it's an actual "mini" keyboard, in that the actual letter keys are not reduced, and it doesn't use short-travel switches. Just all the other keys are either cut off or condensed around them.
 
Looks like a horrible layout for a gaming keyboard, just adding back lighting and leds do not make a gaming keyboard. For a real gaming keyboard look at the the zboard http://www.zboard.com , which actually has a great layout for gaming, I love mine.
 
I like the lit up keys would be nice for late night gaming. But I am wary of the diamond plate back. Just asking to mar the serface of the desk.
 
I think that keyboard is ugly as shit...no offense to anyone that night like it, that's just my opinion. I hate how the buttons are all mashed together, and the gold glow....uhhhhh.....it makes me want to throw up...well, not really, but thats a horrible color to glow IMO...they should have color variations.....but that's how it should be for all backlit keyboards...that's all there is is blue basically, and now gold...they should have red, green, ooohhh, or even a blicklight ccfl style backlit keyboard! And the keyes would be UV reactive! That'd be bitchin'!
 
I really wish someone would make a keyboard where the keys are clear and light up blue as you press them. That would be wonderful.

Keyboards that aren't full size suck so bad. Impossible to get used to.
 
Acutally, for the most part, the keys ARE full size. The Shift, Enter, Ctrl, Alt, Backspace and Spacebar keys are a little smaller than what's on a fullsized keyboard, but pretty much all of the other keys are full size.

There's a couple of situations where the key placement really becomes a bother:
1) If you have it attached to an Apple computer. The Windows key becomes the Command/Apple key. Unfortunately, this is also the key that is used for most of the keyboard shortcuts in MacOS. Things like Copy, Paste, and more become a reach across the keyboard instead of a single-hand keystroke (the Windows key was moved to the upper-right hand corner of the keyboard.)
2) Applications expecting to receive right-Alt keystrokes for something won't be too happy (XEmacs is an example of this, for source code formatting.)
3) It has no Num Lock or Scroll Lock keys

Other than those three things, it's a pretty decent keyboard. Much easier to adjust to than the other mini-keyboards I've tried, and much less error-prone should I hit a key off-center.
 
It looks like one of those $1400 CRX's that just had $150 in neon and paint..... It would look nice in a fire, or off the top of a big building at night while lit up..... Just my opinion. :p

It took me long enough to get used to my zBoard from a Dell quietkey (and im still not 100%), no way I could use a piece of garbage like that. I just cant stand that kind of keyboard. Whenever I type on a laptop or Apple, I just get super pissed off at the way it feels.
 
Laptop layout = teh suck.

Plus the font they used for the letters makes it look like a MyFirstPhotoshop project.
 
Yknow, I'm actually middle of the argument here. I'm not a gamer, but I love the modding world. I can honestly say from what little gaming I do this keyboard would be pretty lousy to work with...but on the other hand it does look awesome. I've wanted a backlit keyboard for a LONG time but this is the first time I saw one that lit the letters rather than just having translucent keys. Personally I think that looks better than the stupid keyboard glowing so loud, and usually in a horrid attempt at blue...I like the look of it.

I wouldn't mind spending the extra cheddar on a keyboard I liked...but the layout on this thing is bullshit. Is it just me or is it really asking so much for people to make normal 104 key boards like this? Maybe even a media board for people like me who are media nuts into modding rather than gamers? I mean seriously...if you want to call it a "gamers board" wouldn't you do like the Doom3 boards that don't even have enough keys to type an email? You know those cool ass ones where everything is in the wrong place for typing but laid out perfectly for the game it's intended for? If you are going to make a kick ass backlit KEYBOARD make a freaking keyboard, not these wannabe mini-irritations.[/rant]

Ok, I'm sold...anyone know if it's going to be available in red? Or is there any information as to the nature of the lighting effects so that the color might be changed once the board has arrived? Please make note I'm threadjacking as of this moment and talking about the saitek eclipse...

I choose to disagree here as before, I already said that those blue wannabe LED keyboards that light up the whole keys sucked. I mean seriously...even if they were a different color that much light has GOT to drown out the letters on the keys making it nearly as impossible to type in the dark as with a non lit board.
 
Why doesn't someone make an LED keyboard with visual feedback (via an extra USB plug), such that (once the necessary drivers are loaded) when you use a drop-down menu option that has a hot key (such as Cut, or Paste - CTRL-C / CTRL-V), the corresponding keys on the keyboard light up as if you'd pressed them.

This would be an awesome learning tool for complex software like Maya or 3DS, where there are five billion hot-key combinations that you need to learn if you're ever going to be faster than a slug trawling through the menus. Simply by using the menus, your brain would start to associate the functions with the key combinations, without you even trying to learn.

It would also be an awesome tool for your parents/grandparents, since they're typically not aware of even the universal hotkeys like cut and paste.

Same here.
I have a small keyboard similar to the one posted but that type of layout is kind of strange to game on when you are use to a full sizes keyboard. But Its all in what you get use too.

They aren't wannabe LED, they're electroluminescent sheet which is far more expensive than LEDs and also provides more even illumination. I used three small EL sheets to light my wireless natural keyboard. It's not even close to being too bright, and I can just switch it off when I'm done.

compact keyboards can work for gaming, but teh layout has to be right. I use a Zippy WK-801 for my gaming board, and it works fine. But that may be due to having somewhat normal sized keys, just the spacing is funky, and the only parts of the layout that's normal are the main cluster and the arrow keys, which are the parts 90% of us use anyways :p

Because most times, half the keyboard would light up, I guess.

The keys are depressed like a laptop which is actually a plus for me since I like the feel better. You can can still see the letters when your typing. About the only thing I don't like about it is that its ps/2 only.
But you can get a plug for it if it bothers you that much
