Hi [H]arders,
I upgraded my Internet to Virgin Media's 100Mb and have been getting some very odd test results while debugging my router's speed.
I have this simple config:
LAN>>>>>>Router>>>>>>Modem>>>>>>Internet
Testing Website:
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics
The Modem can be configured as a Router or Modem and is currently a Router for testing purposes, but I get the same results in Modem mode. I can therefore crudely test the router for throughput speeds by comparing the inside and outside of the router. These are the results:
Modem (Outside) - ~100Mb from bbmax and ~100Mb from bbc
LAN (Inside) - ~100Mb from bbmax and ~50Mb to ~65Mb from bbc
I'll be performing a packet capture tomorrow sometime to see what the traffic is, but before I do, I thought I'd ask if anyone can explain why testing with BBC gives me 35% to 50% reduced performance over the router?
FYI, the router is a E3000 with DD-WRT. I have tested this with another router that gives similar, but differed results.
