South Wales Police has become the first in the UK to use the equipment. The first arrest was made on Wednesday but it was not related to the Champions League final. Real-time cameras linked to facial recognition software will monitor people in and around the city center. South Wales Police announced May 22nd that they had partnered with NEC in the deployment of the technology.

It's tough to have a firm opinion on this one way or the other. If used as it is currently, on mobile platforms during large events such as the UCL I think it's great. In a city wide deployment, you run into issues of overreach and public privacy.

The UEFA Champions League finals in Cardiff give us a unique opportunity to test and prove the concept of this technology in a live operational environment, which will hopefully prove the benefits and the application of such technology across policing.
 
Seems way to big brother'ish to me thank you! But when the government likes to encourage poverty through social engineering; which then breeds crime. You then need the state to take away your rights in order to protect you from the violence they have allowed to develop.
