Been running my e6420 2.13GHz @ 3.2GHz for past 9 months and now my PC refuses to boot past windows XP if I run it at anything over 2.13GHz? W T F? I haven't made any bios changes lately (using my same saved config) and my hardware has been pretty much the same (upgraded to 4 x 1GB lately but it's been working fine for 3 months).
 
could be a lot of things.. the cpu degrading.. northbridge degrading.. psu going bad.. sometimes adding a little extra voltage to the northbridge or cpu can remedy it..
 
First thing I would do would be to clear the CMOS and try to boot at stock settings. Test stability and ram at stock. If everything checks out ok, go back to your original settings and try again.
 
Clean out your heatsink fan, clean out your heatsink fins, and lastly and most importantly, take off the heatsink, clean off the thermal paste and apply some fresh stuff.

All Thermal pastes degrade over time, especially Arctic Silver, so it's wise to re-apply it as a matter of course every 6-9 months.

Unless you're pushing stupid voltages through a CPU, they rarely degrade in the time frame most people own a CPU for.

Do I really have to? My HSF is not hot, CPU is like 28C i think.

RAM is the hottest component, BURNING hot. Cause I think Im running some 1.8 sticks at 2.0V....I got 4 x 1 Ballistix but 2 are new and 2 are old. Should still work fine cause Im not OCing RAM. Memtest is fine too.
 
open up your case and blow a box fan into it to see if that helps stabilize it...if so then you know there's a cooling problem somewhere. Start ripping heat sinks off and replacing TIM, get an active memory cooler, new case fans. Try turning your mem down to 1.8v and loosen the timings. Clear the CMOS and redo your overclock. Pray to the east. Don't take any wooden nickels. Wear a tinfoil hat.

You know, the usual.
 
Ballistix are utter shit from what I've seen. More people have those die than any kit in the last 5+ years. I'd replace them immediately; if you're running 1GB sticks a 2x2GB kit of G.Skill should be like $50 or less.
 
Cooling is optimal.

My basement is 16-19C probably...I already have 4 120MM case fans and a semi-open P182!

Really think it's the mem but why isnt memtest showing errors?
