really really noob question here.

just got a laptop with a yonah duo core processor. 1.8 ghz.

so, do i have to download any updates or patches or something to make programs access both cores? or does it sorta just do it on its own?

access dual core? what do you mean. you're already got it and windows will recognize you have two cores, it just won't essentially optomize for your dual core. press Ctrl + alt + delete and click the processes tab. then choose any process that you're using and right click it. go to set afinity and you'll see 2 cores. That helps you assign a process to a certain core, makes everything a slight bit faster. (tip)
 
it should run just fine across both cores as it is...

tho its always good to visit windows update every so often... :)
