Well, I am trying to call around to find a Bonneville heatercore. I have only been able to find a "Premium" HC for like $48. What makes a heatercore "Premium?"

Most likely material.......cheaper cores are made of aluminum......expensive are brass tanks, copper flues with soldered joints.

uh, call Autozone. Get the copper one (which has blue end caps over the tubes) $17.99

How big and restrictive is something like that? I have a supercube right now and it KILLS my flow. That and it's so damned big.

Well, it has 14 "up and down" channels with fins attached of course to help with airflow. I'm personally using a ViaAqua 1300 pump and i get almost 1.5 gpm flow with:

Big old P4 block (technically with 5 90 degree bends inside it)
Big 9800pro block (technically with 6 90 degree bends isnide it)
A reservoir (with 1 90 degree bends in it)
And of course the radiator.

Now i really dont coun't the blocks as 90 degree bends, but they are there.

I think 1.3 - 1.5 is plenty of flow for my system, my water temps are at room temp.

So that's my $0.02

I was under the impression that the $17 heatercores were the factory rebuilt/refurbished ones and the $48 ones were the brand "spanking" new ones. That's my impression anyway. Either way I got the cheap refurbished core.

dunno about that. But the $17.99 for me turned out great and works like a champ. :)

I was never going to buy it, just curious about what the difference was. And I've called all the local auto parts shops... included 7 autozones and none of em have any in stock. One store did but they wanted 29.99 for it.

ok man thats like $8 more than what i paid in autozone. Guess that core is not in your budget. Try any GM large late 70's car. Just go to autozone and see what they got.

it's not that it isn't in my budget, I'm just not going to pay a premium price for it. I do not need it right away. It is replacing my current heatercore,

No, heatercores cannot be refurbished, they are generally trashed once they sprng a leak.

I ordered my core through autozone. The store wanted $30 too, but i just bought it off their site for 16.99 + ship = ~$25 to my door. Meh. (chevette core though)

The $30 price the store wanted probably was the other model of the '77 bonneville core. Make sure the one you order costs $17.99 from Autozone. One for $29 is without A/C from what I remember. The one for $17.99 is the one for a car with A/C. I'm not certain but I know the one that is $17.99 is the correct core to buy. Autozone CAN'T charge more in one store than another. They have flat prices through all their stores. You pay a fee of sales tax if applicable. But the advantage is no shipping charge, instant availability (if the store has in stock), and tax usually is cheaper than the shipping of an $18 heater core.

Erkan, I can try to see if they got anymore in since last week when I got mine up here in W-S and get it for you. Hit me on AIM or PM and we'll talk. There are some pics I took of mine how it looks out of the box in my thread. Sig.

I have seen a couple that come from the factory with paint in the $50 range. don't waste your $$ the paint work on them isn't worth $10 much less $30.

if you can't find one for less than $48, PM me.

I just ended up buying one from 2fresh... I couldn't find one for less than what he was selling em for, so why not go ahead and get it pre-barbed
