uhh....comp not booting, HELP ASAP

ok, basically i start up my comp, and instead of loading the IDE stuff on the black screen you can usually screen, it doesnt load that, and i hear a beep - three times quickly.

i try restarting, same thing, turned off comp, then it worked. I told my comp to boot up in windows normally. gave me a blue screen that said driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (this has not showed up since).

i got as far as loading up windowsXP from the disk, and then i got a different blue screen that just said windows had a problem.

I had OCed a little, just 200 MHz, but i've already re-set my bios to fail-safe mode.
 
Try resetting the bios totally - Flipping the jumper and pulling the CMOS battery (with the computer unplugged), and see if the same occurs...

If it does, check your RAM timings... if you have them set on something tight, change them to be extremely conservative or even set it back to AUTO. As well, run MEMTEST.
 
now i've restarted/shutdown a few times, it says my CPU is unuseable.

edit: i loaded fail-safe bios again, and it worked. o_0

another issue though; everytime it gives me the option to start up in normal windows, or safe mode, i select safe mode. then it shows me the loading of a bunch of files, but stops and sits there. doesnt ever get to safe mode.

its also not reading my CD drive anymore, because its not asking me if i wanna boot from CD

i'm not sure which jumper i need to ''flip''. theres a yellow one, and i have an abit IC7-G MaxII Advanced. and when you say flip...what does that mean (i'm sorry, i'm a noob when it comes to messin with jumpers.)
 
ok, everything works fine now.

i have dual channel 1 gig corsair xms 3200 ddr ram.

i pulled one stick out, comp booted fine. so i swapped the stick i pulled into the slot the other ram was in, booted fine.

THEN i set the ram into the position they were when the comp couldnt start, and it booted fine.

so where was the problem?

Ram wasn't in all the way? So when you tried to oc, the ram would only partially read and lots of errors would occur. My guess anyways.
 
no....i had had the same OC (3.0ghz from 2.8) for weeks straight.

then this just happened

where is memcheck anyway?
