Well it all started when my temporary college pc died on me, cpu fried...

So had to run on a 500mhz P.O.S. for a week or two till I ordered some new parts...

So i scrapped up some parts and built this pos, windows 2000, and well, my 200gb is my baby...its got everything, all my music, lots of personal files, so I had windows installed on a lil 30 gigger, and added my 200gigger on there so i could at least listen to some music til my new pc came in.

Strange behavior begins, certain mp3's interlap with each other, for example, a rolling stones song will play a simpson .mp3 i have somewhere, some mp3's turn into all fuzzy screeching, one time i restarted and win2000 seemed to try to 'repair' it and scrolled like a thousand messages with something talking about fixing orphaned file...

I think my data is there, but some files point to the wrong files, etc...im freaking out here, any tools that can analyze/fix file structures, or any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated.
 
I had this happen with three different WD 200GB drives. THey were holding movies though that had the same file names, just directories allowed me to navigate the different movies. It drove me nuts for a long time. I gave up and deleted everything just last week and sold the drives for $20 and told people the problems I had.

I managed to spend some time rebuilding some of the movies, but it was a ton of work and not worth it.
 
Another forum user elsewhere suggested this, think its worth a shot?

"Install a linux OS on the partition. Once inside gain access to you're files you should be able to play them/open them with a distro like Ubuntu (which is also very easy to use for beginners in Linux) Then start backing up!"
 
The MFT is probably messed up at this point. There's nothing Ubuntu can do for you at this point that Windows can't. Either try a software solution (link, someone?) or send it off to the pros for real recovery ($600).
