I've arranged to trade a card with another user on the messageboard for some other hardware. The card that is the subject of this thread is a GeForce2 MX 200. It has 2 caps on it, and one is ruptured and leaking, but the card still works. Since it would be a quick job to replace said cap, should I just unsolder it, take it to RadioSmack, get a new cap and solder it on, or should I ship it as-is (telling the person going to recieve it, of course, as I already have)? I wouldn't have a problem doing this, except maybe my iron will crap out or something. This card is way past warrenty... :p

Ask him if he wants you to replace the cap for him or not....Problem fixed....

good luck with Radio Shack.
I had to special order my caps for a mainboard. RS had the right voltage but wrong rating or right rating with wrong voltage.

this guy should have what you need, or tell you where to get the low profile caps for a vid card. I bought my caps from him, 30ish caps for about $20. Installing them was easy, replaced every cap on my test i810 board, guinee pig survived without issue, my brother just upgraded from that system, my dad has it now. My AMD 760 RAID board didn't fare so well. I installed all the caps and after I finished the last one a drop of solder landed on one of those tiny ceramic caps, it fell off. Tried to solder it back on to no avail, it was as small as a pencil tip.

Thanks for the link. I just need 2 caps, or just 1. I think the cap that is ruptured wasn't defective, it got punctured a while ago. I don't know, if my memory serves, this cap has been like this for a long time. It's dented inward, not out. I tested some RAM and mainboards this evening, and it worked just fine.

I don't really need low profile. I have huge heatsinks on this card, so it can be a standard size cap. :p
