so, i start my computer, and it stays on my Asus a7n8x screen for about 10 seconds, and then something beeps twice.

It stays like this, beeping about every 30 seconds: then it mysteriously boots up normally.

WTF is this, anybody know? I shut down the comp, and now i'm at schoo'. Don't wanna go home and find everythin' messed up, so - anybody have any idea why it was getting "stuck" on the MOBO screen?

help is greatly appreciated,

seth

Have you disabled the splash screen? Maybe the bios will show the problem.

I believe it's the "Tab" key to get out of the splash screen.

my Asus did this before, it was when my keyboard plug came slightly loose. But i think in the new bios revisions it won't post at all if the keyboard is disabled(it just beeps). I would check all your hardware connections and reset your bios.

well, another thing is

while it was beeping and only going onto the asus screen, i pressed delete, for the bios, and it went to the black screen with some white text, but didn't load the bios

think its still the keyboard?

You might want to clear the CMOS and then flash the BIOS if the problem persists.

and how do i "clear CMOS and flash BIOS" :D

talkin' to a n00b here :p
There is a jumper on the mainboard (three pins), usually with the text clr_cmos or similar next to it. It's placed over pins 1 & 2 (might differ). Place the jumper over pins 2 & 3 after you've pulled the power cord out of the PSU of the system. Alternatively you can take out the battery. Wait 30 seconds or so, then place the jumper or battery back, connect the power cord again and boot the system.

Flashing the BIOS is done with a small program and a BIOS image on a (bootable) floppy disk. You'll find instructions on exactly how to do this for your mainboard in the manual and/or on the site of your mainboard's manufacturer.
