Wouldn't you know that the new motherboard that I got for my friend's upgrade would be bad. Brand new, in the box, and bad. It ran for about 30 minutes and just stopped counting off the ram. I tried 2 different power supplies and 4 different ram chips, so I know it's the board. One of the ram chips was the one out of my main folding PC, so I friggen KNOW it worked good. That chip has been abused for hours and hours straight without incident. Thankfully the guy is taking it back and said he'd replace it once he verified it was bad. I don't think he'll have any trouble doing that. I need to make sure he knows that it will run when it's cool, but once it heats up and you start trying to do stuff with it, it quickly stops working. It acted all normal at first, but it NEVER went into Windows. It would always lock up before Windows loaded.
 
It's the main part of your computer that the processor, memory, and cards plug in to. If it doesn't work right, NOTHING works right.
 
Yes, what motherboard brand and model ?

DOA parts suck big time man, I feel your pain. It's so much more satisfying when you kill them yourself... but having them dead in the box is just..... shitty...

His computer is older 754 Socket Sempron, so it's an ECS Nforce4-754 Board. It has a PCI Express slot for the 9600 GSO card that I got to go with it. I hate waiting on getting the replacement, that's what takes so long.

This is damn funny. Not the DOA part, but the subsequent responses.

Sorry to hear about the ECS board being bad, but ECS boards aren't exactly known for their quality.

 
Honestly I've used quite a few ECS boards over the years even in my own personal computer, and I've only had 1 go bad before this one. I guess I've just been lucky.
