ok, so a little while ago i RMA'ed by mobo to abit (specs in sig) because one day the video decided to go out on me. now, the northbridge fan had been making weird noises for a while, and when my comp crashed one day, i noticed that the nortbridge fan had completely stopped spinning, so i assumed the northbridge was dead or something. so i got it RMA'ed, and after the longest fucking wait ever, STILL the same problem.
the problem: my agp port or something isn't working. my girlfriend has an identical setup to mine, sans 9800 pro. i tried it out in her computer, with my ram, and my hard drive, and it worked flawlessly. i just built a computer for my dad with asus a8v deluxe, amd 64 3000+, 512Mb geil xms pc3200, and my 9800 pro. worked flawlessly.
now, i noticed that the monitor light blinks like it's on standby whenever i use my computer with the problem, but when i unplug it from the video card, it starts saying like "check connection". i've swapped out the graphics card for my geforce 2 mx, and still the same problem. i'm going absolutely NUTS.
another problem i forgot to mention was that the night before my mobo or whatever went out, i had been working an essay for a while til 3 AM. i was gonna leave it on, so i could wake up around 7'ish and work on it some more, but decided against it because it was a typical lightning-filled florida night. so now, when i wake up, i immediately turn on my computer, go take a shower, and i come back, to see my compouter frozen. i reboot the computer, and notice a burning smell. i immediately turn the computer off and checked inside, to notice a slightly charged front panel usb lead.
i'm starting to think it might be the psu or the case or something, but what do you guys think?
