I built a new Core i7 comptuer and of course something comes DOA. I have decided it could only be the power supply, which sorta disappoints me because I had good experience with it in my previous build (same model but new power supply... I sold my previous computer.

It is a Silverstone ST70F 700W modular PSU. Nothing turns on, no lights, no fans, nothing. I have verified that the switch is wired correctly, and my motherboard has an onboard power button as well. I figure if it was the motherboard I'd at least get a POST error or something like that right?

I quadruple checked all wires and they are all plugged in correctly.

Unplug everything, only connect the motherboard and video card. Test everything first before trying to RMA it.

Yeah I only connected the motherboard and video card. Then to see what would happen, only the motherboard. I also changed different ports on the power supply.

I just tried that trick. The fan did not turn on.

I guess we will just have to assume he plugged it in, and turned the PSU power switch to "ON";)

If the paperclip failed- go ahead and RMA it sadly :(.

Assuming the switch is on and the power cord/outlet is good.

The fan might not turn on unless there's a minimum load applied to the PSU. Try connecting a case fan to it and see if that spins or not. If not, then the PSU is definitely dead.

Well I left the hard drive, DVD drive and 3 case fans plugged in to it. Nothing was on :(

I was pretty psyched about this build too. lol

I guess it'll give me some time to do other things to it instead. Like sleeving the wires and stuff.

If you mounted Mobo in case already take it out and put on anti static stuff or something and try it on that too. You could have a motherboard screw sticking up and shorting something out

Definitely try the paper clip trick, if it's ATX 2.2 you may need to attach a case fan as someone said to make it start as ATX 2.2 requires 1A on the 12V to start up.

If that doesn't work, it was most likely damaged during shipping. I have one that was delivered by DHL that will only work when flipped upside down. I seriously think DHL plays football with these things...

That's weird. I didn't try it upside down though... haha.

I also didn't try taking the mobo out although I guess I will give that a shot.

Okay I am the stupidest person alive. It works outside of the case. I saw there were some solders very close to the backplate on my heatsink. My guess is that they were shorting out.
